How much do you need to overlap your sweeps with the Goldquest?

I'm used to a double d coil and have never used any other type. Am I correct in thinking that the overlap needs to be 50% or more, when gridding an area?
Thanks, in advance.

Hi Kathy,
One of my coils I use is a 11" DD coil, Even though it's DD from tip to tip the ends will never be as hot "deep" as the center of the coil which applies to all DD coils. Most DD coils are different, You need to setup your detector outside away from interference and test scan a nickel and take notice where the drop starts from both ends of the coil. You'll notice a minor slight loss of depth at the ends and with this you'll be able to determine how much of an over lap you'll need.
What size coil do you use and do you have to retard the delay a little when using this DD coil in the surf? I have to retard my delay to about 12uS for the DD coil to perform in the surf but boy does it do an outstanding job.

just the standard 11" coil. The Goldquest is new to me. My other detector has the DD, but thanks for trying to help, Paul. It's the way that folks step-in and add their info, which makes these forums essential reading.

Hi Kathy,
With the 11in mono coil, you certainly will not miss much, even at depth, with a 50% overlap. Generally, I move forward one coil diameter at each sweep, but you could then miss a target that is just on the detection limit if it falls under the edge of the coil on two sweeps.
Eric.

Hi Kathy,
Sorry about that, my speed reading was too fast and misread your message. Good thing I don't sweep as fast as I read <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
