How much do you think I can get for my Minelab Explorer SE + Sunray probe + 8" coil?

Mojave

New member
I haven't put this up for sale yet, but I'm just trying to get a general idea of what the market price for this combo would be. I bought the detector back in early '08, used it less than 20 times, and I have added a Sunray X-1 probe and I have a Minelab 8" coil as well. The only cosmetic issue is dust, which I could easily clean off. It would look almost brand new.

Just to clarify, it comes with the stock 10" (non pro) coil as well.

I would say anywhere from $800-$1000. The biggest problem is having the stock coil and not the pro coil. Any educated buyer looking to buy the machine will know that they will have to spend another $200 on the Pro coil or else they will just have a dud machine in comparison to other Explorers.

OOO no he didnt say dud not about my beloved SE? I have to agree most people will add the pro or SEF coil before the 8.... and that price looks good. Also, those first few standard coils made for the SE were in doubt. If you are just wanting to move to another machine.... contact a dealer, most will take it in trade at a really fair price.

I wouldn't know about the new coils, since they came out after I bought this. I will say that both of these coils work very well. Very stable and deep. My deepest find was 14" on an old civil war era mini-ball. Many more finds in the 12" range. These were both with the stock coil. That's cool if the pro coil is a lot better, but this one is no slouch. I've found silver at 8" and beyond with the 8" coil. Depth is definitely not a problem with the SE.

I currently have no desire to trade this in for another detector. I bought a couple Tesoros a while back just for local coinshooting, and I was wanting to recoup that cost by selling this one. I just don't have the time to detect like I used to.

I have a buddy looking for an SE. PM me if you wanna negotiate. Thanks!

I get good depth.... but nothing like you are getting. No two machines are created equal.... maybe you have a hot one or you have found that magic combination. With depth like that why trade the SE.... i cant believe the Tosoros are any better... lighter yes. Is your soil sandy? I get that depth in sandy areas where there isnt very much mineralization. You still havent said how much you are asking... but if i were interested i want to know it would burn up the soil in my area as well since depth will very by location.

14"?

Well everybody on the forum that knows me knows exactly what I am thinking right now, so I will refrain from posting it.

But if it does in fact do this, why not sell the Tesoros? The Explorer is an AWESOME machine for coin shooting. I could cherry pick coins all day long.

Yup, 14" measured. Rather large, flattened bullet. Like I said, I have gotten items at 12", I never said I found coins that deep. The deepest coin was probably about 9", but I'm sure it could go deeper than that. I find the deep relics out in the Mojave desert.

That's fine if you don't believe me, I don't have to prove anything.

9" seems about right with your only having used it 20 times. Sorry if you thought we were in disbelief, but you asked the same question of a guy 9 days or so ago in one of your posts when he said he got almost 16 with a 7" coil. Hopefully you feel more comfortable with the tesoro... these (SE) arent for everyone.

I really am sorry that some of you have such terrible ground mineralization that a claim of 12"-14" is laughworthy. However, insinuating that I am lying and pretending that these machines are somehow incapable of detecting that deep is no way to deal with the issue.

My Se with the pro coil loves deep minie balls. A splattered out fired minie at 14" is certainly not out of the question for the SE.

You asked on this thread what your SE is worth and cited a seemingly anomalous situation to assist us. That was the laughing part - not that you were lying. I know if it's doing that well, it will help the sale - somone's always looking for that sweet machine that outperforms the others (I know a guy that has an XS that outperforms newer Explorers).

I think you're making a mistake selling it with that kind of performance (unless the 14" situation was an anomaly).

Are you saying the Tesoro's you're keeping are performing even better than that?
