How Much More Battery Life On O8 With Head Phones?

I don't know how much difference there is between a Teknetics and Minelabs as far as the headphones saving battery life but in Andy Sabish's Explorer& E-Trac book on page 171 it says the use of headphones will extend the battery life by at least 20% because the headphones draw less current than the external speaker. I also have a G-2 and it goes forever on a battery but I always use headphones. But Andy says any detector and he has used most of them. Hope this helps. HH :teknetics::minelab:

My guess would be closer to 30-40%. It is hard to say. I've burned an impressive number of batteries in my time!

I think in the G2 manual it states the battery life to be about 15-20 hrs so I'm assuming that's "WithOut" Head Phones. And I'm assuming that's with an Alkaline battery. So IF using Head Phones would give you about 30-40% more I guess that's not Too bad for only One 9 Volt battery.I have an older detector with an analog meter that uses 2 (9 volt batteries) and it only gets about 8-10 hrs using an Alkaline and not much more using Head Phones so I guess that makes the One 9 volt battery look good after all.

In the Omega Manual it says 20-25 hrs.You would think it would be Less than the G2 since it has a lot more Info on the Display going on at the same time.Maybe the Audio is louder on the G2 and uses more power.I really don't know.

My guess is the 20-25 hours is with headphones. :(

That's probably right but the O8 manual doesn't say..at least if it does I couldn't find it.I was curious why the G2 would get less hrs since the Omega is Displaying more information on the screen than the G2.Plus if you are using 3 and 4 ID tones. It just Seems that would cause the O8 to have less battery time than the G2. Oh well...I guess it's really not "That much"difference!
The main thing is... just make sure you don't have any metal in the same pocket as your spare 9 volt or you "WILL" have less hrs use with either detector. I learned years ago in a survival book to start a fire....Just touching steel-wool on a 9 volt battery will instantly burn also a burn a hole in your pocket and skin.Someone needs to invent plastic 9 volt battery clips to snap on the 9 volt. They make them for 120 volts so why not a 9 volt battery?

Ronk Quoted "I was curious why the G2 would get less hrs since the Omega is Displaying more information on the screen than the G2"

The G2 may use more power because it has dual processors.

That's Very possible... but I couldn't find in either manual where it states battery life is with or without headphones, but like I said before...it's really Not that much difference. It could still depend on several factors with either detector.I don't think anyone is really going to do any serious testing to find out.The only thing I have noticed was I've read lots of reports of those using the G2/GB complaining about battery life but I don't remember reading any complaints about the battery life on the O8.

I am about at 10 hours on this battery I have in now. I will have to change it probably within the next 45 mins to an hour the way the battery indicator was going down. I do not use headphones. I have earbuds but they make me feel like I am on a short leash. I am seriously thinking about getting some if it will help me get double life out of the batteries. To be fair I am still learning this machine and I do like to dig one precise hole. So I will recheck and recheck to pinpoint my target. Meanwhile that speaker is just going off. I also use d4 tones.
