With the Sniper, as long as you're not right up next to playground equipment or sidewalks with rebar in them, you can crank it right on up to max if you want. If it falses on you at the limits of your swing, back it off till it stops. Remember, Sensitivity is a two way road, it makes your machine sensitive to the good things and the bad...like mineralization, salt, sand and such. More is not always better. Personally, I run mine at 7 or 7.5 and do just fine. You're not trying to make the Sniper a depth maven anyways, you just want it to sort amongst the trash and get up next to metal that the bigger coil will not. Also, the media that is in the playground will affect your machine as well. Pea gravel seems the worst for me. Sand is the easiest to work and bark chips can be tricky depending on how much moisture is in them. Personally, I hardly ever hunt tot lots anymore, maybe give them a quick once-over for a little battery money and then move on to more lucrative sites. BTW, if the tot-lots are sand or pea gravel, get yourself a short handled sand scoop, makes target retrieval much easier.
