How to figure Manufacture date from Serial Number?

How do you figure out the date of manufacture on a White's detector from the Serial number? I know there is a way but I forgot.

Ok the first four digits should indicate the year and day the detector was made hers is an example>

1234>>>the 2nd, 3rd and 4th digit indicate the day that year>>>234th day of year

the first digit indicates the year>>>>1======2001
