How to find very thin gold with Goldquest SS V2

Hi,
I try to detect this thin gold (18k) chain with this tiny gold pendant (18k) but my Goldquest SS V2 don't make sounds,

My settings:
1)REJECT at 10uS
2)SAT at SLOW to 9 o'clock
3)THRESHOLD as to just hear it
4)FILTER 2
(Headphone: Koss R80; on dry sand)
I think my settings are not to bad, maybe the detector can't detect this chain and pendant ?
Thanks,
Robin.

Hi Robin,
With links that are only a little longer than 1mm, the chain will certainly not give a detectable signal. The problem with chains is that, although the total amount of gold may be quite substantial, the detector sees it as lots of small individual pieces. i.e if one link has a signal decay of 5uS, then 100 links that are not in good contact with one another are still going to be 5uS. Only the amplitude of the signal changes, but if the signal has reached zero at 10uS for one link, then 100x this is still zero. The pendant also must be too small, or thin, to read.
A detector designed primarily for use on a wet salt beach has to have its small object sensitivity limited, otherwise it will become overloaded by the beach's conductivity signal, and not be of any use.
Eric.

Robin,
Something is not right.....my Goldquest SS will easily pick up the larger round link/clasp. The leaf pendant which looks to be around 7mm in length should also be detectable. <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?">
I can see the main chain links maybe being undetectable.
Your settings are optimal for this sort of gold targets <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> Although I'm not familiar with the filter settings....why are you set up with the second filter ? Are ground conditions bad ?

Hi Robin,
It is very difficult to determine much from a picture but I would think the GQ would detect the clasp. Are you sure you have the reject at min and not max?
Will the GQ detect the clasp when using just one filter?
