How to get rid of crust?

2000nkb

Member
I found a 190? V nickel and it has a little crust on each side. What's the best way to remove the crust? Have I heard people on this forum saying they use some type of oil? Or is it a lost cause?

Most nickels found are not worth much more than $.05 so I take a brass wire brush to them and get the dirt and crust off to look as nice as you could make them look under the circumstances. They will still discolor though from being in the ground.

Thanks Larry.
