Hudson's thing. What was it used for?

Found this today. Never found one before. I believe it is made of thin copper. The nickel is for sizing which I found today too.
Anybody know what it could have been used for? On the right on the Hudson's thing are two tabs that can be bent underneath.

This is probably not correct but it could possibly be to press a design in a pie crust.
 
Your "Hudson thing" is half of a Victorian candy tong.
They came with boxes of candy.
 
Very interesting. It is so thin and frail. What I don't understand though is why are there clasps on the one end? What did the
clasps clasp on to?
