Hunt #121 with F70 may have a gold earring?

Here is what I ended up with today. Earring doesn't have a marking on it. Have to take it out to the md shop some time this week to have them look at it. Got soaking wet. It probably rained half the time we were out. Thanks for looking and Happy Trails....Z

Wow, good show, Zeekeys!! I'm impressed. Where are you searching to come up with that much change and an earring? The earring appears to have three small diamonds and three sapphires. Probably nothing you are going to retire on, but, a good find, no doubt!! What is the little 'fob' pictured just below the earring? I couldn't make it out in the pic, but, it appears to have some engraving on it.

Would you mind sharing your settings with us? Keep up the pictures of your finds......they are always interesting, at least, to me!!!

Sorry Roland forgot to put the settings in. Sens@75, Thres@1, Disc@1, Tones@4H. I hunt elementary schools they have small wood chip or sand lots for the kids to swing or slide on. I have a hip fusion on the left side so no longer can get on the ground with out some kind of help getting up. Could also be something to do with getting older? I want to detect as long as I can so take it easy on my knees by using a long handled sand scoop. Don't dig in the dirt just not worth the pain. I spend much time on the beaches because there are 7 beaches within a few miles of my house. The 'fob' is I think it is from a zipper? It has P Vayc on it. I had to dig it out of the grand kids bag. All that stuff is put in a bag and the kids look through it and take what they want the rest I throw away after they look at it. They make bracelets with the charms and necklaces with the pendants and what not. They have fun and I get all the satisfaction on watching them.
Roland here is some of the jewelry I have found in the past few years.
Thanks for looking and Happy Trails....Z

Z, thanks for sharing the settings! I am still a very raw newbie at this game and yet to find my first silver. (I have only been out 5 times with the longest hunt being about 1.5 hrs....that was today at an old middle school) I have been running in the All Metal Motion mode, Threshold 1, Sens 90-95 and 3 tones. This is after I stopped using the default settings. I'm still playing with the settings and will continue to experiment with the goal of learning more about the machine.

Your findings are most impressive. If I do half as well as you have done, I will be very happy!

Roland I have been playing with different settings all summer and it gets kind of confusing. Another thing is sometimes the setting work great on a beach and not on land and it also goes the other way good on land and not good on beach. I find setting of Sens@75, Thres@-3, Disc@10, 2F or 4H on Tones work as a good general setting. I was running Sens@40 and going from +1 to +5 on Threshold this morning but my hunting partner was following behind me and finding coins that I was missing that I should have found. So be careful with settings. The little car and man in post 119, I just washed them off with water. HH and Happy Trails....Z

I too search mainly on beaches, and the kiddy parks. You will be surprised at what you will find at 0 to 7'' down in the sand. So my f5 works great for me @ 66 years old

Crusher these young kids don't realize what a great hobby md'ing is. I am not a guy that will take a walk. I don't go to the gym. Don't ride a bike because I know how many morons are out there driving. Many shouldn't even be in the gene pool?? I will play on the computer and watch movies which I do in the winter. But when it is warm I am out there detecting every day I can. Even when it isn't so warm I am out there. My wife loves it too because I am gone. As I get older my detectors get lighter and I really don't care how deep they can go just as long as I can dig a fair amount of coins with it. I dig jewelry and older coins by accident looking for those just dropped coins. I go home exhausted but feeling right nice that I had a good day detecting. Trev thanks and I do kind of take it easy. If detecting is taking away years from my life so be, but if it is adding some so be it? When retired (10 years) sometimes it is hard to fill your days with things to do. Md'ing has done that for me. When nothing to do I head down to the beach (5 minutes away) and do some coin shooting. Oh another thing when retirement comes the big checks stop coming in. So you have to adjust to smaller amounts of money. If you have the detector already almost no more out lay for money because you can use the detector for years. Enough I could go on. Thanks for reading and Happy Trails guys....Z

Great post, Zee! Yeah, it seems that most MD'rs are in the "older" bracket. I know I'm right in there with crusher and, like you, have been retired almost 11 years. I work on motorcycles for a few extra bucks (my gun money), still ride my motorcycle and have just joined in the fun of MD'ing. What a great hobby. The thrill of anticipation and not knowing what is actually being dug up is most of the fun for me. I am happy unearthing a zinc penny........can't imagine what I will feel like if/when I find an "old silver!" My best find to date, however, is a good friend of mine that (unbeknownst to me) bought a metal detector the same time I did! Instant locating buddy!.......how good can it get?

Best wishes for a great hunt to everyone!!

Z that's a nice earring, I'm sure it's gold with diamonds and sapphires

That's an impressive jewelry display you have there. Is that big gold chain with the cross the real McCoy? If so, that must've paid for a couple of detectors :clapping: I like that big fancy silver bracelet too...looks very Victorian.

HH,
Brian

Brian the big gold chain is marked 14K on the cross but the chain isn't marked. I think it is brass? When I found it I thought maybe the Pope had lost his cross. The silver bracelet is very unusual. There is a ring in the second row 4th one from the left was found in the same hole about 8"+. The ring also is with like design. All of the jewelry was found since 2007 when I started to detect again after a long time away. I have gone through a zillion detectors looking for the ONE detector. My F70 is starting to spit and sputter. I am thinking maybe I should send it in but I really don't have a back up detector. I have been looking for some time but just don't see anything I would like to swing. I would like to swing something different than the F70. Thinking of getting a Compadre just for the fun of it and doing the tot lots. Of course that could change in a heart beat. Going to go out and see if the noise is coming from headphones? It is noisy with different coils. Changed batteries. AT noisy and Disc is noisy. Different sites noisy. Last try headphones.
Roland and Crusher I am in your age group also, a blessed 69 here. Thanks guys and Happy Trails....Z

Bummer you're F70 is giving you problems. I had to send mine into FT, and they ended up replacing some kind of capacitor and a coil and it was nice and stable. If you are looking for a replacement/backup machine, and being that your mainly tot lot and beach hunting, you might want to give the new Fisher Gold Bug a whirl...take a look at the discussions on it over on the Fisher Classic forum (guess it didn't really fit anywhere else) and I think you'll be impressed with it. It'll probably find you some nice gold chains and bracelets and other small gold that's hiding in the sand/bark chips and it's turning out to be a superb beach hunter as well

HH,
Brian

Brian thanks for the heads up on the GB se. Have been looking at that little guy a lot lately. I really perked up when you mentioned good beach hunter. It is light and quiet. Good on dry and wet sand. I called the md shop today but guess they left early so will have to wait for Monday to talk to the guys out there. Thanks Brian.
I found out what was wrong with the F70. I am too embarrassed to say but lets just say it was operator error and leave it at that. Have had 2 real nice hunts with it and works great as always. I must have over 200 hunts with the F70. I did hunt #123 today not much in coins but Dave and I had a good time. Dave is my hunting partner. His wife really likes me because I keep him away from the house longer than when he was hunting alone. Marcomo thanks for the kind words and many good hunting years back to you. Thanks and Happy Trails.....Z

Oh, c'mon Zee, share with the world, you might help someone else resolve their issue. (was your coil cable loose,)
