Hi All,
Was out hunting in the deep woods of PA along the old Pa canal. There are two old home sites in the same area and the age has to be from the late 1700's to mid 1800's.
My hunting buddy and I headed out in the early Am hours to get a jump on the the day's hunt. The first site has the remains of a house and barn. On the two walls that remain on the house there are fire places on every level. Hunting along the old barn remains I dug two Indian head Penny's one 1873 and the other 1898 also dug a pewter spoon. I didn't have my Garrett with me that day but my friend had his 2500 along for the hunt.On the second site he found two wheat cents from the 1920's. The old Pa canal is about 100 yards away from these houses. I did hit the toe path and found it had large cut nails everywhere. One thing that I did notice about this area is you can dig a good ten inches and never hit any clay dirt. So and early relics or coins would be down there deeper then you could detect them. So I'm going to ask the land owner if we could do a dig on one of the sites to see what we come up with. Start with a 10'x10' area and work from there.
