Hunted around my church for a bit today...

I spent about an hour or so digging dirt for the first time with the new machine, but I wasted a lot of time just listening and trying different settings. No silver and only about 10 or so clad, but I was really taking my time being careful not to mess up the front lawn
Well, at least I know what good targets sound like now and I was able to ID the coins even before I dug them up. My pinpointing was pretty good although none of the targets were any deeper than 4 or so inches. All in all a pretty good day... still have much to learn but today was a major breakthrough All the tones on the Exp II can be a little overwhelming, but once you start to figure out what they heck they mean it begins to make some sense
Hope everyone else had a great day! Weather was really nice today, sunny and around 72. Supposed to hit 80 by Wednesday... awesome!
Take care,
Joe

I heard that the president of the club where I used to live found silver at 12 inches using the WOT (Wonderful Orange Thing) coil (I think its a 15 or 18 inch coil) for the minelab Explorer (fits on EX2). And some good things about the the Platypus coil (this one I'm not familiar with) but still I heard good things about it as far as depth is concerned. Most of the guys have changed over to the EX2 from the Fisher (not knocking Fisher, these guys who previously used Coinstrikes have found lots of coins) because the depth. Coins are getting deeper. It seems older coins even newer ones tend to bury themselves deeper due to heavy rains or other situations (Too bad coins don't float).
Oh, and another thing. Prayer Request: Please pray for me that I get a job soon. It's been 2 months and I haven't got one yet. It's hard to get a job down in Decatur, IL. I think it's because of the summer time the students from Milikin University seem to grab up the summer jobs. Oh, well.

you are getting the hang of things. It does take some time to learn a new machine. When I got my Fisher it took a few months to get the hang and about 1 year to really use it.
Hope we are down to 80 this week Steve in so az

my friend telling me that the older lady who she used to go metal-detecting with would say everytime it rained, well those coins will be floating to the top of the ground! So, now everytime we talk about detecting and it's raining, Liz will say better go get those coins that are floating as they'll be easy to find!
Wish it was that easy, but silver & gold ones are nice metal and heavier and even the cheap clads don't float!
God Bless!

about the coin depths and all. My oldest coin - 1838 dime - I dug about 3 inches down. And it had been lying in a spot that was totally untouched by anyone since the CW days of 1860's. Why wasn't it deeper ? It was on a ranch that has had only a few horses ever, no people or buildings.
I sure will pray for your job search - the Lord just might have the perfect one waiting for you this week !! Steve in so az

Betty - I detected an old car race track one time - got several hundred coins & jewelry. What I wanted to say was the people who owned it said that every time it rained they would walk over around & under the bleachers and find coins.
So maybe they did 'float up' Steve

made then easier to find....but their floating would be a help!
God Bless!

saw them laying there for eyes to see! One was a 1914 Dime and can't remember the others, but there were others laying on top of ground! They were usually found after a hard rain with the ground still wet or soft! Found most of my silver at 3 to 6 inches and found a gold ring one time at 7 inches. I had been digging pulltabs and this one was measuring 7 inches, so I said to myself that just might be a ring and it was! So I said, Thank You, Jesus!

Wil pray for your job search Russ.... What line of work are you in?
My brother is 67 (he looks better than me!) and after losing his job a while ago, he got called by a contact, interviewed for a job and got it! He could have retired I guess but I think he was gettin' bored Personally, I would NOT have that problem. I have more than enough (and then some) to keep me busy!
I've heard a lot of good things about the WOT but it may be a little early on the platypus... If I was going to get anything, it would be an X-1; I think that would be pretty valuable, especially trying to pinpoint deep stuff or coins adjacent to other objects. However, it's going to be quite a while before I buy anything related to MD'ing, that for sure This machine was a little over the top... Maybe by the end of the summer I'll have found enough clad to go for an X-1
When I said everything was at 4" or so, it's because that's what I was targeting. I was just cherry pickin' . I still don't know what I'm doing yet and the front church lawn is not the spot to practice digging signals I'm not quite sure of
Lord, I sure hope there's not a bunch of little yellow circles of grass there next Sunday morning

From the land of the Bluenose..a few coins for the collection plate. Yes learning a new machine can be quiet the curve....finding that out as I'm still learning the Bardman's Prizm V...praying hard that my garretts get back this week! Still believe that a detector should adhere to the K.I.S.S. principle!

Sounds like you are getting the hang of it! I smell silver soon!

We've got an old racetrack here in town that was torn down a few years ago. I've never gone there to hunt, because I thought it would be littered with 'tabs. Did you find that to be true at your track?
J.

you'll never know what you might find unless you try!
Good Luck & God Bless & HH!
Betty

yes - race people always want drinks . But it was surely great enough to dig the tabs also to clean it out. I just looked in my records and I dug 331 coins in and around the double stands. Steve
