Hunted sidewalk tear outs today

Goes4ever

New member
today DiggerDan invited down to hunt in his town, there was 5 blocks of sidewalks tore up. We think they were actually TOO deep because we did not find much considering how much area we covered. I got several wheats, 2 crusty injuns, 1928 buffalo, one mercury dime. A neat colored marble, small cross and a spoon. We then headed out to an old abandoned house, it was big time iron infested and my etrac was in a constant null........so I flipped it over to the two tone ferrous sounds. That is where I got the buff nickel and merc dime.

Hi Terry; What is the Lage Button shaped object with the flower. Is it a button??? 2 piece Civil War era??? It is cool. Great Fimds. PEACE:RONB

yes it is a large button, shank is on back but flattened over...........ALSO believe it or not I found ANOTHER one of those airplane rings today exact same thing! all the gold plating it completely worn off and it is smashed flat. I am going to attempt to heat it and bend it back round

You and your buddy sure are doing good and still finding some nice oldies! The button is pretty, probably off a fancy dress or coat button! Like the spoon, too, as it has a pretty pattern! May God Bless! Ma Betty

I have not done sidewalks in a long time! Congrats!

Hi Terry; Great Finds. I hope you can restore the ring. Also on the button. It has to be 1820 or older because of the shank. The one piece Shank buttons went out of use around 1820 although they were recycled up until the 1860's. Yours looks to be one from the 1850's because of the design.Worth about $15.00 to $20.00 ok. here is a brief history of buttons.: The one piece Shank button dates up to about 1820. Then the 2 Piece "curved" buttons came into production because the one piece button was considered inferior and the machinery used to make 2 piece buttons became more readily available. As time went on the only things that changed were the types of material used and much more elaborate designs were created as well. They even used rubber and then plastics to make them. During the 1600's there was an "attempt" to make a 2 piece "DOMED' or "ACORN" type button. They were "VERY" poorly made and fell out of use by about 1710 They are very scarce. If they have a design on them they're worth literally $2,000 to $7,000 depending on the design and condition. If there is a Hallmark on them, usually on the bottom or on the side, and the Hallmark is from a Famous person then they can literally go up to $20,000 Obviously the better shape they're in the better.Plain one piece buttons are worth abut $5.00 and ones with a design are worth up to $125.00. Depending on design and condition. The older ones were either brass or Pewter.Anyway I hope this helps. PEACE:ROB

PS : Happy 4th. :usaflag:
