HUNTING FOR DEEP TARGETS:sadwalk:

The secret is: PRACTICE-PRACTICE-PRACTICE and soon you will be posting pics of piles of coins. It's like bowling, you can't pick up a ball for the first time in your life and start bowling 300's. When I first started out back when detectors were primitiver clubs I thought I'd never get it right but I'm a stubborn cuss so hung in there.

I WANT TO DETECT OLDER COINS , THE DEEPER THE BETTER , I'M GONA TRY THE 12 INCH COIL AND SEE WHAT IS MY RESULTS !!!!! BY THE WAY HERES THE PICTURE OF THE COINS I FOUND !!!!

I used to get a dime every time I washed the family dishes back in 1964. And those dimes were silver.
Got me two Musketeer candy bars at the corner store.

Yeah I remember penny candy. A nickel used to buy a lot back in the good old days. When I used to got to the carnivals all the rides were a nickel. The side shows were a dime. Two to three nickels would buy you a gallon of gas. When I was a teenager gas was eighteen to twenty cents a gallon. What happened? HA.

You should start a new thread when you post something new that doesn't really relate to the original topic. More people will see it and the original thread will not occupy too much space on the first page of the forum. Had you posted this as a new post a lot more folks would have commented on a very successful hunt, I'm sure.

Nice hunts by the way. You're finding some nice old coins and plenty of modern ones too. I'd love to hunt that site with you! I'm sure there's plenty more to find.

The big coil is great and much better at finding deeper stuff. It took me years to get good with mine. In August, put it on for a solid week I became proficient with it and the silver began to pile up. If you've been detecting for less than a few months my advice is to keep with the stock coil until you feel very proficient with it, then swap it out and use the big coil for at least 7 hunts and see how you do. Pinpointing with the big coil takes practice and depth indication is not at all accurate in my experience. I went out today with my stock coil for the first time in three months and every target was within and inch of where my 2500 said it was. If I go out tomorrow, I'm going back to the big coil.

I don't know how long you've been at it but you're doing very well!

Chris

congrats, it goes to show what patience and a bit of help can do to your totals,,

HI CWILK :wave:I'M NOT USING THE 12 IN. COIL YET , I'M USING THE 9 IN.COIL :detecting:IN ALL METAL MODE ,I JUST REJECT BOTTLE CAPS ,:pulltab: & FOIL , WITH THE ALL METAL MODE , YOURE DETECTOR WILL DETECT DEEPER AND USE THE BELL TONE , LOWER THE THRESHOLD , BY LOWERING THE THRESHOLD YOU'LL BE ABLE TO HEAR DE BETTER YOURE SOUNDS ,AND DIG ALL THE TARGETS THAT YOUR DETECTOR TELL YOU :detecting:YOURE GONA DIG ALOT OF TRASH, UNLESS YOU WANT TO DISCRIMINATE TRASH, IF YOU DO SO, JUST LIVE THE 5 CENTS, THE 1 ,10 ,25 ,50 &, DOLLAR ,BUT DONT FORGET IN ALL METAL MODE, GOOD LUCK ON YOURE ,HUNT BY THE WAY WERE DO YOU LIVE ? ARE YOU IN CHICAGO ??

As others have said go slow, overlap swings and dig the iffy signals. I found it's harder to dig coins in old parks because they have been pounded to death. Try digging some signals that just don't ID perfectly. Besides, at a certain depth (depending on your soil), the ID isn't accurate. Also, strange signals will pay off.... I had dug an 1895 quarter that was an 1" away from a pull tab. I betcha 100 guys went right over it - but it didn't ID pretty. Here's another tip - detect in areas that other might have missed - like around fences, near sidewalks etc

Awesome improvements on your finds!:detecting:Congrats on the silver!:cheers:Really nice Franklin half!:super:I haven't found one of those in years, and believe me, I've looked. Yeah, if you switch to that 12.5 incher, you'll be finding alot more silver. Like the guys say, it does take some practice, but you're doin' great. Best of luck to ya'.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
