I stole a few minutes after work and did some dirt fishing at a local tiny park near my job. I knew my wife was making dinner and I didn't have a lot time but I just had this urge to go. I had been to this spot before a few times and have pulled a couple injuns before and it isn't a very large area at all. In fact I brought "CrispyToo" there one day and I pulled a Merc out but the signals are slim although on this night a managed to hit a little pocket of signals.
In dress clothes and all, I strapped on my knee pads, tried to stay as clean as possible and started swinging. Within a matter of less than 20 minutes I pulled two Wheaties from the 30's and 40's, one large piece of junk and an interesting signal that warranted further investigation.
After a handful of wrist wiggles, I managed to pull a decent 2 way hit (for clarification, I refer to a 2 way hit as a signal that produces both left to right AND right to left OR up to down AND down to up or any combo of those that hit 2 ways. If I can only get it sounding interesting Left to Right but not Right to Left, then I would consider that a one way hit. Obviously the best possible is a 4 way hit using this criteria. Pretty much imagine a cross. Hope that makes sense.)
Anyway, by no means was this a clear sounding signal but I have had much success with digging great finds out of trash with the Explorer in the past and this time was no different....I tore away the plug and saw a nice silver rim the size of a quarter surrounded by large pieces of iron. The dirt just fell of it and I saw the Eagle staring back at me. I knew what I had...flipped it over and sure enough it was a 1910 Barber Quarter in amazing condition. My 4th for the year and by far the best condition of the rest! What a great feeling. I love this hobby/addiction.
Hope you enjoy the pics.
