hunting in pa

i'm new at this. first thing any one have a good setting i can try . just got a mine lab se. and have no idea how to work it.im south of pittsburgh pa. any links you can show me to learn how to use it.

What are you hunting for?

What I'd suggest to try at first is:
Factory setting Except:
Semi auto sens at 30 (max)
Gain at 7-8

If you relic hunt just use ferrous sounds as well, look at the screen for sound reference.
Don't forget to noise cancel.

When you get used to it lower discrimination step wise, 1 or 2 steps maybe.

well i guess i should have read the fourms before posting. i sat here all nite and read. and learned alot about the se. and what it can do. thanks for you help and thanks for this forum

Better to ask, there might sometimes be new tips or experience, even users that put it in a better perspective.
I hope it helped. Ask any time.:detecting:

Artie, im certain there are people in your area using the SE or a club with a local expert. You might consider getting Andy Sabisch's book as well. I think Eu-citzen gave some pretty sound advice about starting out by using Auto and upping the sensitivity for awhile. Dont forget to do some air test just so you will know what you are listening for in the field. If you hunt in Ferr in one of those crown cap ridden parks, id suggest you disc out crown caps or you are going to be digging a lot of those high tones. If you arent used to the DD, practice centering the coin and recovery. Any questions you have just post them there is a LOT of great hunters on here.

Hey Artiebebad,

If you check you messages you'll see I sent you a link to Andy's site.

I'm from the "neighborhood" so to speak.

Maybe sometime we could hunt together.

Good Luck,

Ron

what part of pa are u from ron. i am from washington, pa.

I certainly wouldn't suggest using ferrous sounds in a park, but rather in i.e pasture and the like.
In iron laden sites Audio 3 might help. (takes time to get used to though)
