Hunting Kentucky

[size=large]am planning a trip to Kentucky around the last of Jan. 2012. can anyone tell me the state laws on MDing in that state? also what is the weather usually like around that time. this would be southern Kentucky. this will be my first ever trip away from the west coast. around here we can have lots of snow or 70 * heat. also what's the soil generally like around Bowling Green?

I am a little north of Bowling Green in Kentucky, but I would expect the ground to be similar it is very mild compared to alot of the country. As far as the weather well I wouldnt expect 70's the snow can be hit or miss. I would say as far as the weather goes your biggest risk will be frozen ground to hard to dig. The laws can very as well, State parks are off limits unfortunately. City parks very from city to city but I have found that typically are ok, as well as schools. There is alot of farm land around Bowling Green with some old places, if you have time maybe try some door knocking. With the right attitude I find alot of people willing to let you hunt their land.

Well I know it was kinda of vague, but hopefully it will give you a start.
 
No MD'ing in Kentucky State Parks that is the only state law I know of, this won't affect you, Metro Louisville/Jefferson County has local ordinance that forbids MD ing in their parks ......No metal detectors allowed in Land between the Lakes,.... you'll be east of there.....just asking and securing permission from the landowner is basically your ticket ..... I am presuming that your hunting on private ground.........The saying here is wait 15 minutes and the weather will change.......seen 70's in late January.........seen it -28F too....was ice fishing then......:rofl:.........never paid too much attention to the soil down there in Warren County.......I am about 90 miles north and east from BG .....the river bottoms will be some sort of silty loam and the higher grounds will be a reddish type of clay......you have to get permits to hunt any of the Army Corps of Engineer Lakes but I think those (Barren and Nolin) are the closest but are not in Warren County.

[size=large]thanks for the info. my brother has secured permission from 4-5 landowners already. the mayor of his town has given him the okay for schools and such. the city parks people have told him to have at it. he's been asking around and has been told of only one mder being seen around his town. his church pasor has also given him the green light. mind you he's arranged all this and doesn't even own a detector yet. one of his former pastors owns land about an hour away from his place and he's given permission to hunt there. says both the blue and gray passed thru coming and going. also said nobody's been detecting the property as far as he knows. :drool: i can't believe how excited i am at the idea of hunting virgin ground.:jump:

[size=large]if i can get there it's gunna be a fun week. he has more places lined up than we will be able to do in a week. this is a one time trip for me. unless things go very well and my health doesn't get worse. i believe he will need to get help in detecting the fields. someone who's into relics. guess we'll build that bridge when the time comes. i'm not a traveler so am concerned about weather and conditions. will be bringing two of my machines..figured i'd ship them ahead i already reommended he get an ATP instead of an Ace 250. my thought is i'll be able to pass on what i've learned and he won't have to buy another machine. say if he broke in with an Ace. will need to talk to him more. don't want him to blow more money than he needs to. problem is when he goes back to work,he's fighting cancer now, how much detecting will he do after that. will he be hooked on detecting or not? just maybe the Ace is enough for now.

Don't subject your own brother to the Ace.
He will need the depth as well as the performance over an Ace 250.
I bet you are bringing an ATP and a certain minelab?
