Hunting My OLD Stomping Grounds:

Nancy-IL

Well-known member
We went to the small little town where I grew up and played in many of the yards. Picked my mom up and off we went. Mom has an Ace 250 detector, Larry had his Minelab and I had my trusty MXT with the 5.3" coil. New batteries and I was ready to go detecting the yard again. :detecting::twodetecting:We've detected this beautiful corner lot about 5-6 times and it's getting to be few and far finds. We all came home with a few pieces of clad and misc. junk. I did come across a 51-D dime, a 41 Wheat cent and then the coal scatter tag. The scatter tag is made out of very thin aluminum and I was told that years ago when the coal companies would fill the rail cars with coal, they would "scatter" these for advertisement in the big coal-cars. Therefor the name "scatter tags". Not worth anything, but very interesting and surprised as to how good it looks. Mom's finds are attached also and not too bad for a 77 yr. young Great-grandma. I sure hope you guys and gals got out and enjoyed the day. Sounds like a very nice weekend ahead! Thanks for looking and HH to all, Nancy

Interesting find Nancy. It gets better all the time, not only a husband that hunts but a mother too. Glad you had a good time. Rob

This year my mother is really getting into the hobby. We bought her the detector two years ago and last year her health didn't let her detect. Now you can't stop her. She went to the neighbors yard that evening and found .16 more and was as proud as a Peacock! HH to all, Nancy

Nancy,

Great finds. You always seem to come up with something a little out of the ordinary, like the coal tag. Your mom too. Its not every day you find a pteradactyl metal detecting! Keep up the good work! Its great that you share your love for metal detecting with your mom! Mine just turned 89 and is a bit old to go metal detecting, but she likes to hear my stories.

Pete
