Hunting very good location, but tons of Iron. Please help.

I started to hunt a very good property where homes stood from the 1920's to the mid 50's. Very little trash, but TONS of Iron. All metal mode is constant iron. Pattern #1 seemed to be my best choice, but I wanted all of you opinions. The coins have all been at a depth of approx 8 inches. So far I have found a 1944 Mercury dime, 1935 S Wheat, 1944 Wheat, 1944 Wheat, 1950 Nickle, 1054 Nickle, One I can;t read yet, and several other neat old items, (a mickey mouse spoon, old tube of lipstick, ect.) I will be posting as soon as they soak in olive oil for a while. My question is, would would you all deal with the huge amounts of iron? Also, I'm using the 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz, any other recommendations. It is a large area, and I have barely scratched the surface,

Also, I didn't mean to ask would you all deal with the iron, I meant HOW would you all deal with the iron. Sorry for the misspelling. And what would be your coil of choice.

When I hunt in areas such as you described, I opt for a smaller coil. I know you have a lot of area to cover. But the amount of soil having to be analyzed by the large coil, compared to the small coil, is enormous. On the surface (no pun intended) one might think that a 10 inch coil has to look at a bit less than twice as much soil as a 6 inch. That is not the case. The 10.5 inch coil is having to "sort out targets" under the coil (at any one time), many times greater than the 6 inch. When you consider volume and not surface area, it wouldn't surprise me if the larger coil is analyzing 5 or 6 times more soil at any one time. My suggestion would be to use one of the 6" coils. Of the two, I prefer the DD. JMHO HH Randy

First you need a plan.

How big is the area?
How much time will you be able to put in there?
Where are the areas that valuable targets are most likely to be?
Will this site remain available to you for months, years?

If you are limited in time & will lose access, then take the big DD and cover as much ground as possible, don't sweat missing stuff in the iron. Cherry pick out the most solid targets and recover as many as possible in the shortest time.

If you have the time, cover the most likely areas first with the big DD, run it until you get tired. With a DD you need to hunt N<>S, E<>W, & 45degrees. Then switch to the 6 inch HF DD which will locate items in thick iron very well and feel like a feather. This will give you a couple more hours of hunting time. The big DD is used like a Driver and the small DD like a Putter. Shorten up your swing and crawl back over the most target rich area SLOWLY, targets will zip by. If you have anyone hunting with you, warn them that the giant light bulb appearing over your head is the 6 inch HF DD effect.

I would remove some of that iron every trip I went and you need to get a 6" coil in there and hunt in all metal. Yeah, the grunting is a pain in the butt, but you should be able to pick out the high signals easier with the small coil. I would go back and forth with different coils, stock and small coil. to get as much as you can among the iron. That big coil is a bad choice when the trash or iron is real dense as it can miss the coin size targets in between the iron, especially when you're in pattern 1.
