It seems that someone with several hundred hours on the E-Trac is still not able to pinpoint very well.I have found the E-Trac very easy to pinpoint with unless a very shallow target and then it is about the same as any top end machine with a large DD coil,Ray
Quote: I have and still do have a harder time pinpointing with accuracy with the Etrac compared to my SE's, even after more than a few hundred hours of Etrac use.
I run mine in normal pinpoint mode. Mine is right on the money. I'm usually within an inch at 6" deep. Small cut nails give me some problems, but that's about all.
just swing it on a cross or intersecting lines ......there it is down to 15 inches and how much deeper I will not say.....And I really like my garret Pro pin-pointer.....A scratch on some of the coins i find are not an option....plus it gives freedom (no wires) and light on the matter at night, it is water proof, does not make a lot of noise and dogs seem not to mind the PRO as much as some of the others.......Of coarse I have permission...... but i do not advertise for those kinds that DO NOT have permission, do not care and will claim jump.......keep a low profile......what grand-DADDY always said....
Happy Trails
jimpugh ps. somedays like anyone it can be hard to get your Mojo in tune do not fight it..... it will come....
Iv been using mine for about 60 hours and i can hit the deep targets dead on but the shallow ones still get me. Dimes throw me and coins on an angle get me still. This is my first minelab and my first time with a DD coil. My fishers never had them. Cz6a, id-excel and a garret ace 250 for the kids. But im not doing to bad with the minelab PP. I was able to PP so well with my id-excel that my plug wasnt but about 3 inches around no matter how deep so Im not to that point with the e-trac yet but il get there.
I've used mine for two days and probably four hours total. I find the pinpointing to be the easier part of this new hobby for me. The E-trac is my first MD though so I don't have anything to compare it to. I can pinpoint a pull tab with the best of them.
You are not alone on those on edge coins .It sure hits them good but many times to one side a few inches.Just a matter of time till I scratch a good silver on edge,Ray.
No problems for me either. Sounds like he may be having trouble separating his target amongst trash. I have to find a threshold first, sometimes even picking it up off of the ground to get it.
Hi Ray.
I don't own the E-trac but do have the Explorer. I've noticed that at times, a coin can hit on the left side of the coil more noticeably than the right side; most particularly when the target passes under the outer coil. If a target is on edge and not under the centre, then it's probably under the left side of the coil. It seems the be genetic with other DD coils that I have as well.
Just a thought.
Mick Evans.
I have found that like everything else I do in this world, I usually take a step back and ask myself where am I? As far as the E-trac I use it so much that I take a time out every so often and ask myself what is my strong points and what is my weak points.? I own up to my weak points and re-read the manual. The next time out I work on the weak points until I over come these before I continue to the next objective.
Maybe the changed mount point in the new coils is causing errors, especially if one is used to the older type offset like the slimline style coils, old habits die hard, having said that i have no problems until recently on odd shaped brass flake
No problems pin pointing with the E Trac. A good target is right where the machine says it is, no matter what the depth. However, I have found that if the target is not in my 3" plug, but off to the side, it is a trash target. Has anyone else noticed this with the E Trac?
I've had my E-trac since Christmas and have no problem pin-pointing with it. In fact, the E-trac pin-points better than any machine I have ver used. If you have Andy's book, go to page 57-58 and the secret will be revealed.
