"I am so glad to have another lady with us......."

This is in response to Betty's comment - "I am so glad to have another lady with us......." - when replying to Wendy's post about the forum.

I have been around this forum for a few years now. I used to post frequently (years ago), but then things changed and I didn't have as much time to join in, and then eventually I ended up dropping out of the picture. From time to time I would drop by to do some reading but seldom ever posted. Matter of fact, I've had more than one 'screen name' because I couldn't remember an old one, or would forget a password. I recently registered with the first 'screen name' I ever had for this site (a loooong time ago) - so I KNOW I won't forget it this time! Ha! Since things have slowed down a little in my life, I hope to remain a part of the group from now on. I might not post often since I haven't been out on a hunt for quite some time, but at least I'm back to reading the posts and hope to be out hunting again real soon.

I appreciate, more than you know, that there is a Christian site where our hobby can be shared. I have some prayer requests that I will probably send out soon, but I don't want to overwhelm folks by typing too much right now.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know, Betty, that there is another lady hunter here on the forum! Information is in my profile, but here is a quick bio... just to give you an idea.

* Lisa Hutchens (Northeast Alabama)
* 45 years old (or I will be on Sunday... that's my birthday)
* Married for 25 years (on October 7th) to husband, Tim
* Two young adult children - both in college
* I'm a high school history and social studies teacher (not teaching right now due to caring for elderly parents... but want to get back in the classroom soon). I have some other jobs/titles too.

Thank you for your response and it is always nice to have previous members back with us, too....whether male or female. It is just that we don't have many ladies on this forum and I really appreciate when the ladies join and stay with us!

HAPPY 45TH BIRTHDAY AND MAY YOU HAVE MANY, MANY MORE BLESSED ONES IN THE LORD!

God Bless!
Betty

Glad to have another lady here also. Hey my birthday is Tuesday!
Hope we see lots more of you here.

God bless!

Mike

Welcome back, remember you only need a few minutes to detect, it does not have to be a marathon session. I had an hour to pass the other day and hunted the grassy edge of a parking lot where I know they pile up the snow. Because I only had an hour I set my detector for the silver end of the spectrum. Walked away with 15 quarters, 3 dimes and 2 pennies that were sharing a hole with a quarter.

Happy Birthday, glad to meet another Sept. baby, mine is this Friday (tomorrow). I was also born in '63.

Brian

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ME SON, AND HOPE YOU HAVE MANY, MANY MORE BLESSED ONES WITH YOUR FAMILY AND DIGGING FOR THE GOODIES!

Let me see, this is your 41st one, I think????? My Tami will be 40 in October! I guess she will be over the hill then and sliding homeward to a far better life with Jesus! I am sliding more and more also these days! :)

Happy birthday Brian! I hope you have a blessed and wonderful day! Yep, I was born in '63 too.

Sounds like you had a nice productive hunt in the short time you had. Glad you were able to get out. I got my detector out of its case this evening and put in a new battery. I hope to be able to get out for a while this weekend.

Lisa

I'll go ahead and tell you happy birthday now! I might forget if I wait until Tuesday to do it, or I could get tied up and not make it to the forum that day. Sooooooooo...........
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Lisa

Thanks, and just in case I forget happy birthday to you too! :)

I know the Bible is more than history - it is the history of people and of God. We look sometimes and see the way things were and whether God was part of the 'scene' or He was ignored.

I recall American history, thinking of all the things like the Civil War, Declaration of Independence and thousands of other historic things. I got thinking (while cleaning the church) what if we didn't look at American history the usual way we do but instead look at it as 'what if this was a part of the Bible (American history)' and we looked to see how things were and whether God was there or ignored.

The Declaration of Independence - God was there right?

The Gettysburg Address and Abraham Lincoln - God was there in his words and actions?

Just something that caught my thought processes.

We know of Moses and the people in the wilderness for 40 years - where is America in its history? Once it was honoring God and now God is being ignored right? It has been said "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." We think in terms of wars. We didn't learn so we have more wars - no! The Bible says there will be wars and rumors of wars. What is it we are supposed to learn? Shoot first - ask questions later? Compromise even if it means losing ones freedoms? Nuke em all and let God sort them out?

The answer is simple - from history we should be learning it is better to have God on our side than to be without Him. (But ya know the schools can't teach that can they?

Just wondering - has it made you wonder?

Blessings

Thank you, Pete, I am glad you put in words about God and History, as I couldn't have said it any better! The nation who forgets God....suffers and then falls, unless they turn back to Him and ask forgiveness and turn from their wicked ways! Our nation has been in a widerness since the 70's when ROE vs. Wade was passed and allowed the killing of pre-born babies, even up until it's time to begin their life on earth! For shame, as this has brought on all the greed, along with pornography, homosexuality, rape, torture and murder to a greater extent! Think about what has happened since that law was passed to kill the innocent, even the ones who are out of the womb and cannot help themselves!

Dear Lord, please have mercy on America's people and help our leaders to have godly wisdom! Amen!

God Bless!

I agree Pete. Good points!

In the area I live in, and the schools I've taught in, I'm blessed to be able to acknowledge the Lord. Around here we still pray before our high school football games, have morning devotionals, and I believe that most of the schools (middle and high schools) have a Christian group that meets one morning a week called First Priority. There is also a day set aside each year when students and teachers can meet together around the flag pole to pray; it's called "Meet Me At The Pole." The general 'rule' is that anything to do with religion (prayer, devotions, etc.) is to be student led, but teachers get away with giving their input here and there without any problems. Maybe this is because we are in the Deep South - the Bible Belt. Of course we do hear of problems over religion (God) popping up in places around the South, but I think we do have a little more religious freedom than in other areas of our country.

I understand! Certain types of history are a real killer. I have hated the times I got stuck teaching World History because nobody (including myself) cares much about ancient China, Japan, Africa, or anything else. I usually teach American History, Holocaust, and the Civil Rights Movement - and I absolutely love that. Believe it or not, students usually request to be in my classes because I go the extra mile to make it fun. I try to add a lot of humor to my lectures, and I have students do tons of 'hands on' things like debates, skits, creative compositions, and lots of projects that they seem to enjoy doing. One of my favorite projects, and a favorite of the students, is having them construct a concentration camp. They have to choose a camp from a list I give them, and then go online, or find images and information in books, and from that they build the camp. I'm going to miss that this year since I'm not teaching right now!!!! Here are some pictures of three camp projects done last school year. We did these back in April. My room is usually wall to wall things that students build. Sometimes it gets hard to walk around in there! If I'm teaching a government class, we have campaigns, elections, etc. Whatever I'm teaching, I try to make it fun, and I try to get each and every student fully involved. It makes a BIG difference.

Looks like they did a great job on the models they built. I bet I would have liked history better then also. I love it now! :)

Those are some amazing set-ups in your classroom. Looks like a lot of hard work paying off. People learn better when they do things, retain more knowledge that way. Wish I would have had teachers like you. If you like scaled down replicas of locations, you should see the utterly amazing model train set-ups Greg from Mi has, unbelieveable.
