I bought a used 5"DD coil this winter and used it for the first time on some wet ground. It hit

the targets pretty strong but lacked depth. I was getting depth readings of 9" and thought oboy, looks like a good coil. All targets were reading 6 inches deeper than they actually were. so the 9 inch target was only 3 inches deep. this happened for about an hour before I switched back to the standard coil, which gave proper depth readings. Anyone else see this problem? thanks, Tom

Tom, I'm not having that problem...as far a depth goes. In fact, I am using the 5" now almost all the time when hunting in trash. I am hitting true 7-10" deep coins pretty regular with it. The depth meter does read deeper, but mine gets deep. What kind of ground to you have in your area? I'm using mine on the LTD, what about you? HH jim tn

That's odd I've found the 5" DD on my F75 LTD to be a depth demon It also worked well on my F70, and I was able to crank it up a lil hotter then I could with the larger coils.

I have an F5 I use the 5 "DD the most. It turns the machine into a surgical instrument. Depth with pinpointing is very accurate and is good to 6 "depth on coin size targets in the ground I hunt in Central VA. You have to go slow due to the coverage but I am in no hurry, most of the stuff I am after has been there quite awhile. Good luck.

On coins with the 11" or 5" coil, my LTD exaggerates by about two inches.

On items larger or smaller than coins, all bets are off because the TID is set for coins.

I found the 5 inch and the 6.5 inch elliptical coils to be not bad on pinpoint depth estimate. The 6.5 inch elliptical I have seems to have a real tight pattern and can get up nearly against fences and poles. Just about an inch back from the tip is point that I can get nearest to the fence or pole and wiggle out targets.

The 11 inch DD tends to say it's a little deeper than coin size targets really are; about 2 inches like marcomo notes.

Mine is off too. Sometimes by 3" or more depends on the targets. How long in the ground and if I get coil over the middle I guess.. It's never been dead on.......some times it reads 14" and it's 9, 10, or an 11" object.. only thing for sure is coin on top of ground it double bleeps always.. I wonder if the 10" concentric coil would be more accurate on depth readings..

The depth indicator on my F75 LTD seems to be spot on most of the time, doesn't really seem to matter which coil I'm using as long as it's a coin, it's pretty much right on the money for depth.

With most deeper coin size targets the depth gets over stated from 2" to as much as 4" with my LTD. That is one of the reasons I put small notches on my short handle digger for depths down to 12" and also have a small Garrett (give away) 3' tape measure handy. In decent ground, the LTD gets near amazing depth. HH jim tn

I agree that the small coils usually produce great depth in my soil. I had a 6.5 and wouldn't even try the 5 until some of you guys started talking it up.
Now I mostly use the five but the 6.5 is perfect for getting close to fences or sidewalks. I didn't run a pin pointer on my older F75 so I liked the 6.5 to
ease into the hole and help me locate the finds.

the 11" coil, but this 5" has me stumped about the depth. It hunt great but when your target says 9" your thinking Indian Head, when it turn out to be 3 " and it's a zinc, that sucks. I usually run with sensitivity around 80 ( I live in Ohio, good ground) disc at 6, 4H tones and notch 1. Since I bought it used do you thnik the previous owner sold it for this reason? Thanks, again.
