I Did It Too, Waterproofed My Cibola, Found Gold Part 2, How To Do It.

Here are the pictures and the process I used to waterproof my Cibola
Metal detector. After seeing what wildwiz did to waterproof his detector, I contacted him, because I had several questions. He was very helpful in guiding me through the process.
1. You need a waterproof, clear plastic box, like the Otterbox 3500. They make several sizes, but the interior measurements of the 3500 fits the Cibola. Make sure you get the Clear one so that you can see if you have any water seeping in while you

you know you might be on to something building universal clear cases to water proof your detector build kits, boy if this catches on this will put a hurt on the water detector market?

well done :clapping:
keep an eye on the case for leeks
a s handle will balance the unit better
i have no problem holding the unit down with the s handle no weight required
you did as great job

Again older hipmount Tesoro's just love gold rings for shallow water hunting...just tuck the box in your waders or hang around your neck..another plus the donut coil is easy to hold down.....If you are going in deep or diving look into a Tesoro water unit...A word of caution Tesoro's work great in fresh water but are not the best on saltwater beaches....Nice mods for sure but why..as water hunting is brutal for long periods and wouldn't someone want a unit made for this purpose..Be advised Tesoro will not repair a modded unit so make sure your mods are cosmetic..

I'm thinking an old silver sabre that's still in good working condition but wouldn't break you if it did get water damage........ since we all know Tesoro won't warranty a modded unit, or one that has been subjected to adverse conditions not covered by it's warranty agreement. I for one have an old silver I'd be willing to try out as an Otter box conversion. I used to water hunt with the Tiger Shark and have missed it since selling it. The Silver is more than capable as a water unit in an otter box conversion. Hey we have to be creative and try out new things....... This could be the latest fad in detecting that could take off and be the norm out there amongst the hobby, if the water machine production isn't started back soon. I for one, tip my hat to Wildwiz & skippers for their creativeness. WTG!

an old silver would be great
& as long as you take care & silicone good & check the clear otterbox regularly
there should be no leaks
ive had a small leak in mine but the unit stayed dry & as soon as i could i resiliconed it & all was well \
no more leaks

Thanks Jay and Ditto what wildwiz said. Also, because I was trying it out, I used the old Fisher shaft so I wouldn't have to drill the Cibola's shaft. Another thing, I spent less than $50 and now know that I like water hunting. I was hesitant about spend $600+ for a machine that I might not use if I didn't like it. And, because I want the Tiger Shark (won't be doing any or very little salt water hunting) and am tired of waiting, this is a good way to get my feet wet. I'll be taking the Cibola out of the Otterbox in a couple of weeks for my trip to England at the end of September. HH Skip

there is two kinds of silcone out there 100 percent rubberizied and plain i think the 100 percent would be better for water as per they use it on the outside exterior of homes

The silicone I bought was GE Silicone II Premium Waterproof Silicone Kitchen/Bath/Plumbing, 3 Hour Shower Ready. It says it's permantly waterproof . Flexible Shrink/Crack Proof. This was a 2.8oz tube for about $3.77 at Wal-Mart. I took the detector out today to another beach, but this one was pea gravel over a rocky bottom. I didn't do too well, only 56 cents and some iron pieces. But, there were no leaks in the Otterbox. I'm really going to have to change to the "S" shaft. The old Fisher is clumsy. Skip

ta da no leeks :clapping:
get that on the s shaft & it will rock
my golden otter went through about 8 changes before i got it right happy now :detecting:
your doing great i got 4 cents yesterday :crylol:
but other days are better
good hunting
