There is a local park, across a road from a high school that is about a 10 minute drive from my house. Well I get up early and head over there. I have the entire park to myself. There is a grove of trees where people set up to have parties and I proceeded to see what I could find. In about 10 minutes of hunting I find 11 clad coins. I am like oh yea, I am in it to win it today. Well I am not looking at my screen, I am just going by tones as I am in the zone. I noticed I started getting no hits. Hmmm....Well after about 10 minutes I finally look at my screen and my low battery icon was lit up. Of course I did not have any extra batteries with me.

Note to self...bring extra batteries.

The kiddie play area is hit hard buy a couple of old timers as it is easy pickings and digging. So no worries, next Sunday I will bring an extra set of batteries and clean it out.

Here's a tip. Go to Costco and buy the 48 AA pack of alkaline batteries for $9.99 They are in a box wrapped in sets of 4. Then take each pack from the box and stick them anywhere your might need them for detecting. I have 2 packs in my detecting bag. 1 pack in my pouch. 1 pack in the seat of my truck and 1 pack in my glove box. The rest are on a table right where I place my detectors.

You know in my bag I have extra batteries, extra coil, snacks, water, etc. I was using my MD on my ranch yesterday and did not have it in my bag. Of course I was like "Heck, it is just up the road why bother?" LOL

hey pro hoof, not to worry. it's happened to everybody on here. i made sure to get a machine that didn't take aa batteries...in my case, my wife and kids would steal mine and use them in their stuff! by the way, thanks for serving your country. semper fi, and hh,

I was working a steep sand beach with my Troy X5 last fall and the machine rolled over I didn't look at the settings after moving on and covered about 1000 feet before I realized that the toggle switches had flipped couldn't understand why it was so quiet. LOL Dan

Hey PFC , I have an embarrassing one for ya. I swung for hours with no signals,
not one, just swinging away cussing the machine. Only to notice the coil cord had
became loosened, and now is flopping. At least I was alone,or I would have really
felt stupid. Needless to say I always check my cord now

Hay ProHoofCare,

I think most of us have done that trick a time or two.

I use a MD that only uses one nine volt battery and

last for ever ever because I use headphones all the

time.

I just try to make sure there are at least two nine

volts where ever I'm going to need them. My pin

pointer also uses nine volt. It is nice to just need

one long lasting nine volt. No battery pack. Just

slides right in.

HH,

how about going out to md. finding a few things turn your md off to play with the little one for a min. comtinue to hunt after awhile and get nothing. becoming frustrated go back to the car to go home and notice you didnt even turn your md back ON. :rage:

you know I did something like that the other day. I was using my Ace 250, I just pinpointed a target. Once I found the coin I started to swing again. I got about 20 feet an realized that its been awhile since the last beep. The power was off!!!!! When I was pinpointing, my glove had just enough slack to hit the power button. So I had to go back and re sweep the area!!!!!

dont you hate that? espiecially when your in a public place. i find people get very interested in what your doing and they like to watch to see if you find anything. then you go off and do something stupid and just imagine what your audience must be thinking.. some times i feel like this while out at the park or schools....:chase: :heh:

Are you kidding? Do you know the number of times I have done some pretty stupid things? Yes, I did the battery thing, dead ones and spares left at home. I also forgot to attach well, the coil wire when changing coils. It was loose and made my machine false all the time. Took me 20 minutes of (not) hunting to figure it out. Oh, and I also got caught in a lightning storm and as I ran to get ahead of it, so I could hide under the cliffs, I fell right on top of my machine. Now I'm soaking wet, scraped up and bent the screen (held down by steel flat stock) right down to the machine. You couldn't view the screen. I bent it back up and it worked. Come to find out I snapped the reset trigger right off. So just wait, when you have about 30+ years detecting, you will have some real doosies to tell (and laugh about). They're actually kind of funny after a while. I would have loved to see a video of that time out. So don't worry, the best is yet to come:rofl: HH.

Well back in the 70s i was real proud of my new used 40.00 whites metal detector. The first day out with it i leaned it against the car trunk, and went and drank a coke.I decided i would head for the house,i forgot about the machine and backed over it and smashed it flat.I did salvage the coil.
