I find it very interesting that most of the top Explorer users still use an XS model

Just that fact may prove the point, " the longer you use a machine the better you get with it"...Look how long that machine has been out.
I would think some of those guys feel like it's an extension of their arm by now..They know every sound....

Thats how my SE is gonna be this year, an extension of my arm!!

Good Hunting!!

I have seen some posts in the past from experienced Explorer users comparing the slower processor speed of the XS versus the EX II and now the SE and how it affects the signal/target response in the headphones. Charles has posted that the XS seems way better on nickles versus the newer models. I just find it interesting how the comparatively very slow XS may compare to the Fisher F-75 hunting the same park or home site to find the deep good ones... I guess what I am trying to say is processor speed what it's cracked up to be and the most important factor for a machine...target separation is great but you still have to be able to hear that deep one amongst the trash-iron in particular...can a machine be too fast?

I have used both the T2 and the F75. If you read the manual it clearly states that the best depth and target ID is when the coil is swung fast over the target. What does that mean to us? (Not so much to me as I hunt open areas more often) but to most of you it means in trashy areas, you are in trouble. That is if the manual is correct. The Explorer will excel in trashy sites. The T2/F75 will excel in open ground such as fields.

Bob the reason most of those machines operater better at a fast sweep speed is that thats how the processor FILTERS operater to seperate slower ground minerals from the faster desirable targets.

Hey Gary, how's things coming along with your SE, ~ have you got it all sorted out ?

If so, it would be great to see a pic of your setup !!!:smoke:

SNOWY, I posted this under Mods on the other site. Not very good pic's but shows the mod.

I used a Garrett Mark II shaft as the lower shaft fits the Minelab coils to a tee, some other shafts might too, however this one was handy.

The only real problem with the hip mount mod is making sure the cable connections at the control box is made so that it can't move inside the unit. I cut 4 pieces from medium thick foam such as used on the arm rest, and fit them inside the unit, and then zipped tied in place with a plastic zipp tie. This made the connection solid.

The coil cable has to be wrapped around the shaft and no problems with out side interference have happened, some state that the cable running inside the shaft helps shield the coil cable, however I think not.

I used Velcro sticky sided and put hook side to smooth side together making a strap of 2 - 2 1/2 ft. This slips under your belt or through your belt loop, then wrap around the handle/unit and adjusted for best position.
Works very well for me and I did the same thing for my Garrett GTI 2500.
