...at a YARD SALE

No I didn't find a treasure map but X did mark the spot at one yard sale. I do a lot of yard sales every Saturday. My daughter is away at college and this actually helps pay the bills. My main hunt is for coins, gold and silver with some antiques thrown in.

At one house I did my usual yard sale questioning. "do you have any old coins or jewelry?" and one lady said she had Pirate coins. So I asked her if I could see them. The whole time I was thinking they were "Pirates of the Caribbean" coins because I was only a few miles from Disneyland. But she came out with a large flat box and pulled out a big picture frame with 5 coins and several certificates glued to the matte board. I knew these were real because I recognized the very first coin. A silver 8 Real the size of a silver dollar from the ship Atocha sunk in 1622 and found by Mel Fisher. There were 4 other coins too, from other shipwrecks, but I didn't care, I immediately asked the lady how much. The first price she said, I thought about it a little (just for drama) and said OK. I knew the Atocha coin was worth a lot. Here are google pics of three of the coins. Mine are glued to matte board and under glass. The pics would not come out very well. There are two other coins that I could not fine on the internet. Anybody have any idea of the value of the framed set? Where do you think the best place would be to sell?

1st coin: 8 Real from the Atocha, wrecked in 1622

2nd coin: Ducaton from the ship Hollandia sunk in 1743

3rd coin: Copper cash coin from the Admiral Gardner wreck of 1808

About one month ago I sold those coins for $400 to someone many of you may have seen on TV. If you watch PAWN STARS on the History channel he was on last night. (I did not sell it to the pawn shop. Rick would have laughed and offered me $100) If you are familiar with the show whenever Rick is stumped on something he calls one of his "buddies" to come in and appraise and authenticate an item. In this case his buddy is Sean Rich an Antique Arms and Armour expert. Really amazing his buddy lives near San Diego a six hour drive from Vegas and he always just seems to show up later in the day to look at something for Rick.

Any way back to the coin set. Sean sells a lot of his items at a small antique store call Guy Stuff (a real neat man cave type of place) and a friend of mine stopped by there last weekend and sure enough my framed coin set was hanging on the wall with a $1200 price tag. :surprised: I hope he gets it, but I know he has some wiggle room in that price.
