I found my 800th plus 1 silver coin yesterday

Mark in S.E. IA

In Oct of 2005 I bought a bounty hunter MDer and I got hooked right away. In Jan of 2006 I bought the Xterra 50 because I wanted to go after the deeper old coin. For the first few months I was having a hard time getting use to the X50 and then in Sept of 2006 I bought the 10.5 DD 7.5 coil and that's when the old coins started to pop out of the ground for me. In my area the Con coil just did not work to good for me but that DD 7.5 sure did and a long with learning everything I can about what the X50 is trying to tell me we did pretty good in the past 7 years. When I talk to people that MD and they tell me to not go to this park or that school because it has been pounded to death, I don't don't let that stop me from going to those places because almost every time I do the Xterra seems to find me a few old coins. Also after about 3 years of owning the X50 I was having some problems with it and ML was very nice and upgraded me to the X505. I wish I could put all the silver coins I found in a pile and take a picture of them but I can't, I like to sell off most of the silver coins at the end of the year, I only keep the really good coins. it helps to pay for gas money to take road trip like the one I took yesterday.

To keep this post short I won't go in to, too much detail about yesterday's hunt other then it was damn hot out and if it wasn't for the clouds I wouldn't of lasted all day. I went to 4 different places. The first one I didn't find anything good. The second place was a lil better. I found a Merc, a Rosie, 2 wheat's and the catholic medal and the silver ring a foot a part. The third place I only found 2 wheat's. The fourth place was the best. I found the 44d Walker " my fifth Half Dollar this year" a Washington Quarter, 2 Barber Dimes a 1892 and my 800th silver coin, a 1908d Barber Dime, a Merc, a rosie, several wheat's, a size 6 sterling silver Boy Scout ring and not in the pic, 2 other junk rings and a junk pendent.

thanks for lookin

Wow that's great!!...1000 just around the corner!!...might be cooler by then!!....Good Luck..HH bob.oz

Congratulations Mark. Finding over 800 silver coins is a remarkable achievement. Especially considering that you've only been detecting for a short 7 years. And it is even more remarkable knowing that you live in a part of the Country where it is impossible to detect for several months of the year. Outstanding! If you're like me, you probalby remember digging every one of them! Of all the 801 silver coins (so far), which ones stand out in your mind the most, and why? Congratulations again on your accomplishments. HH Randy

I don't know if I can remember finding all 801 of them, lol but you never forget when you find your firsts. Like my first silver coin was a Rosie and I found that in my yard the second day of MDing, first Merc was in a private yard. first Barber dime was in a hard hit school yard and when I was digging it I lost the signal. I couldn't find it, the signal went away, gone. after I filled in the hole and I went to pick up my knife the Barber dime was stuck flat on the blade and it was a paper thin dime. the soil was kind of wet and it got stuck on the knife. my first Seated dime I found at a very small town city park on the 4th of July 2006 and boy did I find a lot of old coins at that park over the years. My first Seated Half Dime and I found that this spring in a farm field / Ghost town.

My first Washington Quarter as at a city park. first SLQ and Barber Quarter was at a private yard. First Seated Quarter was at a sidewalk tear out.

My first Benny and Walker come from private yards. First Barber Half come from a farm field that use to have a school house there.
But I got to say my best and oldest silver coin is the one I have in my avatar, a 1782 Spanish Colonial 2 Reale. I found that in a school yard down in Mo. Their was a bad storm was moving in and I was walking pretty fast back to my pickup and was draging my coil on the ground when I got a nice high tone that sounded deep. I stopped and looked up at the sky and said to myself, I think I got enough time to check this one out but the wind was already starting to blow pretty hard by then. I got a quick pinpoint on it and cut out a plug an was digging down fast when that silver disk popped out and about that time a bolt of lightning hit the ground not too far away. I put that coin in my pocket, filled in the hole real fast like and took off running for the pickup in the pouring rain. It wasn't until I was in the pickup and put a lil water on the coin when I found out just what I had found and boy was I in shook. I had to make a couple phone calls telling friends the MD what I just found while riding the storm out in my pickup.

Finding that first type of coin or ring or what ever it is that you would love to find is what makes this hobby so much fun for me and the Xterra has found a lot of firsts for me in places that I was told to not waste your time going there.

Thanks guys for your replies. I've had a lot of fun with this hobby
