Hi guy's, it's been a long time since I have posted any finds here or anywhere else, but I had to post this one. Today the MDing club I joined this spring had a club hunt at a Ghost town not to far from where I live. This town was good size. It was about a half mile wide by a mile long and was only there from 1860 to 1880 I think. After the railroad went through about 4 mile north of there the town pretty much picked up and moved there. I guess they moved over 40 homes to the new town by the tracks. From what I understand this place has been hit hard over the years by other MDing clubs and many other people. We had permission to hunt 2 fields, one on each side of the road by the farmer already planted one of the fields and that field was on the northern part of the town and the field was small. So shortly after I got there I went to the next farmer down the road and asked we could hunt in his fields and he said sure, no problem and while talking to him he told me that the courthouse use to be in the one field just north of his house so that was going to be my starting point. plus we could hunt the field south of his house and the one across the road from his place so we had a lot to hunt.
I was in the courthouse field for over an hour before I found a crusty IH and it's so bad that I can't get a date off of it. I was in that field for about an another hour with out finding anything so I went across the road and moved down about a 1/4 mile so to get away from the other people that was in that field and I wasn't in that field 10 min's and I get a penny signal so I figured it might be an IH. I shovel out some dirt and checked it and it was in the pile of dirt. So I start going through it and find a small silver disk. At first I thought I found a silver 3 cent piece but after putting some water on it I come to find out I got my first Seated Half Dime, 1854. Oh boy you can't believe how happy I was. I was jumping up n down and waving to everybody that I found something good. I'm still pumped up about finding that dime, I didn't think I would ever find one of those. I've been trying for 7 years now.
I didn't find anything else after that, but that's ok I got me a Half Dime now.
sorry for the bad pic's. I'm not good at taking pictures
