I got a phone call Sunday night on my business phone..... Water hunting of a different kind......

The call came in at 2000 hours. One of my favorite customers was in tears as she told me the sad tale. Linda is one of the nicest folks I have the pleasure of working for. We have done remodel work on her very plush home several times over the years as well as repair. She always tips me and many times she has sent us off with home made candy other tasty treats. Her husband had given her a pair of antique diamond earings for Christmas. LARGE diamond earings,( Hubby is not a poor man) and she loved her new gift very much. Sunday night she was taking a shower with her new earings still in her newly pierced ear lobes. She stepped on something hard on the shower floor and used her foot to direct the object to the drain. She then felt another hard object on the shower floor and did it again. After drying off she discovered that one of her lovely earings was MISSING. The back and the earing were both long gone down the drain. She was devistated to say the least. I assured her that we would come first thing in the morning and would make the best effort to recover the 4 figure loss. DId I mention that the shower was on the third floor of her home, and the drains went all the way to the street under concrete?

We arrived at her home at 0830 Monday. I smiled at her and said, "Hi Linda, I am Santa. I am going to slide down your sewer pipe and bring you back your Christmas gift." She smiled a little an said "I hope you can, I am just sick about it." The recovery went well, and after about 5 minutes I walked down to her kitchen and handed her the earing complete with the back. I got a BIG hug. She had it all cleaned up and in her ear (She was still wearing the un-lost one in the other ear) before we had the tools picked up. A great way to start the week. Kind of a "Miracle on Jullion Drive" made for T.V. movie thing. It was a little like water hunting, and I am so thankful that we returned the lost treasure to a very greatful lady. HH DC

an easy way to recover such things for most of us is with a shop vac. All that is necessary is to take you shop vac hose, cover it with a cloth like maybe a nylon hose, and put it over the drain and turn it on. It sucks the line clean and catches the lost item in the cloth.

I imaging most of the small objects like rings and such get caught in the trap. I don't know how well it actually works but I will sure try it if it happens.

I bet you made that lady happy for Christmas
