cwilk said:I inheirited a man's 18k gold and large diamond Masonic ring. It weighs almost an ounce and the mine cut diamond is over 3 carats. The relative who owned it died long before I was born and was a member of FDRs cabinet when he was govenor of NY. So I paid 50 bucks to have it appraised by the best jeweler in town and it appraised for almost 30 grand. I asked what I could sell it for and their figure was about 10 grand. The gemologist suggested cutting the stone into 3 more modern cut diamonds of aproximately 1 carat, 3/4 carat, and 1/2 carat and a few accent stones. Since then mine cut diamonds have made a comeback but I have still never been offered over $7500 for the stone. Chris
