Well, I got my pinpointer ordered today. I had to stop and research them again. My requirements are fairly straight forward, two inch minimum on a dime, and sensitive enough to use for most micro jewelry. They all hit good on nickels but not many meet my requirements for a dime, fewer less on the micro jewelry. It looked to me like the TRX Bullseye would be the best bet for meeting both requirements so thats the one I ordered.

Hopefully it will arrive prior to the weekend. If it does I'll take the F19 down into the river bottom and hunt the small finge signals. The ground minerals are less, stuff will actually sink, and the area is older and sometimes good stuff still comes out. This is a place I would normally take the CZ-5 for coin hunting, but it will also be a good location to hunt fringe depth responses on the F19.

Good luck with that Mike, I've also been looking at getting a new pin pointer myself.

I did some on-line research on the current models Garrett, Minelab, White's and ...... Deteknix.

I've decided to go with Deteknix X Pointer ($90.00 with free shipping) myself, I just got to clean some of the clad I have laying around in pots to pay for it.

By the way, how are you liking that new updated Gold Bug Pro (F19) ?
 
Cladmaster, I looked at the X-Pointer. I liked Don's endorsement, and it looked good, but it didn't seem to offer any more performance than the Garrett or Minelab. I wanted something that was closer in line performance wise as my Uniprobes.

Me and the F19 are buddies. I put a arm rest cover on it, then took a headphone extension cord and routed it so that my headphones plug in at the arm rest. That in turn allows me to use my Koss headphones with the F19 and I get much better audio quality than I did with my regular headphones.

The only thing that was holding me back was the lack of a decent pinpointer and now that I got that resolved I am good to go.

I just got the x pointer and hope to get out with it later today. I have the Garrett and 2 Minelab PPs to compare it with. Holster seems very much like the Garrett's which I like better than Minelab's. I am thinking it is pretty close to the same range as the others, but I have had pressure falseing issues with both that I am hoping this will not develop. It does seem to be a more mature design with the two buttons allowing more control i.e. vibrate only, sound only and both plus multi level depth settings.

The Garrett and the New whites trx. When I use my small detector coil, in trash infested areas, I grab the Garrett. When I use the big coil, I grab the Trx. The TRX is powerful, and in target infested areas, its too powerful. It emits a circular beam, and when sticking it inside a small hole, where there are targets in the sides and bottom, I find it tough to isolate and find the good target.
 
Simply do a quick press of the on button--repeated presses if needed---it will "ratchet" (de-sensitize) the TRX right down.----It actually works!:)-----Page 3 of owners manual---"Target ratcheting-A quick-press of the button ratchets in on strong target signals".

what ? read the owners manual?????? lol. I needed a 2nd pointer anyway.
 
I have been using the TRX a couple of months now and really like it. I use it on setting 3 and can get about 3" to 4" on a coin in my soil. Really like the fast detune feature. Just be sure to keep it vertical as it is more directional than GPP. I use it with the 9V.
 
Mike: What's an arm rest cover and ho did you attach an earphone extension cord to it??? A couple of pictures would be helpful.

Bought it from Larry at NWI Detectors, he gives good deals and ships fast.

The TRX works flawlessly and is exactly want I was wanting. A nice peice of kit as they would say on the other side of the pond.

What I really liked was that my requirement to be able to detect a dime at two inches didn't require any special adjustments. The TRX did that right out of the box. :clap:

All that was required to complete the setup to my preferences was to set it to vibrate only and I was good to go.

Very pleased.

All that is needed now is to take the F19 and the TRX out and do a little bonding over some small signals.

Great choice Mike! The Whites TRX pin pointer is proving to be an very impressive pointer!
 
Just a note concerning the XPointer -- it will not detect small brass. I laid it in my lap while doing some research and testing. Then I took the Garrett and was doing the same thing but when I laid the Garrett in my lap it would sound off. I realized it was my zipper. So, I took the XPointer and moved it up and down on my zipper _ not jokes, please _ it would only sound off when it touched the clasp. The Garrett would read the full length of the zipper. So, I then went to by booty box and found this really nice little piece of thin medal smaller round than a dime and the Xpointer would not sound on it, nothing, not a peep, bleep or anything, while the Garrett would sound off like on a dime. This would mean that if you are an artifact hunter and want to find buttons or other brass items this should be a consideration. I have never found a piece of metal the Garrett will not sound on, lead shot, BBs even. I like the XPointer over the TRX, not overly sensitive, great LED light and it even comes with a Security ring and cheap bungee as part of the package. It has the ability to turn the sound on and off and the vibrations is great. But it ignores brass? Then I have to wonder what other metals will it have trouble with. Anyone know why this is?

I tried that, and you are right. But each zipper piece is independent (small) even when zipped. This video shows a different story for small gold and both pinpointers.

Hightone, I watched the video, so I guess the conclusion is that the Garrett will not pick up gold flakes and the XPointer will. The XPointer will not pick up small brass but the Garrett will -- I guess if we were to pick one over the other it would have to be the XPointer so we do not miss the gold, right? But wait, many guys, especially those in the Eastern states are artifact hunters and I think they may want to pick up the small brass. The solution is to have both on your hip. Below is a picture of the small brass medal the Xpointer would not sound on, at all. As far as my zipper, it was not in pieces, it was zippered up and would simulate, I would think, something more like brass necklace. It would sound on the fastener, so it has to do with volume. Large brass is probably not a problem. I know that my Fisher F70 will pick up some really small stuff. The vid was very informative, thanks. I don't have any gold flakes but this makes me wonder if the F70 would detect a gold flake in the ground? Or, what metal detector did Raven use? Hum, let me think, brass or gold, brass or gold, brass or gold -- guess I will go for the gold. :clapping: I had always assumed the PinPointers all sounded off on all metals equally, even the cheap ones if touching a metal object would sound, but I guess not. lol...............yeah. It wasn't an attempt to degrade the Garrett, or your opinion. I was just trying to say that the XPointer is right there with the big boys, and the big boys have their weaknesses as well.

My Xpointer doesn't aggravate my F5 or F2 either, unless it gets 2 feet from the coil. My only complaint is that the holster snap is metal, meaning I have to turn it off when sheathing. But it comes back up quick with memory in 3 seconds. I can live with that.

Though the Xpointer isn't perfect, it's perfect for me.:thumbup:
 
This kind of discussion is good and revealing. Now, we, you and i at Least, have a better concept of what these Pinpointers will do and not do. After all, it is up to the very expensive Metal Detector to detect, the PinPointer is a helper in locating those hard to see objects and to help us not dig such big holes. I could not be without mine, not matter the brand. I am favoring the Xpointer of my Garrett :cry: -- Thanks for the input. Maybe this discussion should go to its own subject?

How is that F19 working out anyway? I have seen a couple on YouTube and they look really light and easy to use. Are they a specialty MD? I have heard some say they are really just a different version of the Fisher Gold Bug? Thanks again Hightone for helping me to sort things out, Dan
