Had a little time to kill before mid morning Church services, so went to a nearby chip lot with the Omega and 10" coil. Wasn't expecting much as the kiddies historically don't get much outside play time this time of the year. In fact, only found 1 dime, 2 nickels and 3 pennies. The dime, however, locked on 85, which often means silver and I was in hopes of a good ring or some other piece of jewelry. When I scraped an inch or so of chips away, I spotted a dime rim on edge. Plucking in out of the chips, I thought, that baby has the look of silver. The early morning sun was hitting me directly and I couldn't make the date out. Didn't have my cheaters along either. Anyway, when I got home the dime turned out to be a 1953d. No biggie in the grand scheme of hunting for and recovering silver, but finding it in a modern chips lot was a surprise and it did make my 141st silver coin recovery for 2011. One of the pictures is of my finds from another tot lot this afternoon. Merry Christmas everyone. HH jim tn
