I Had A Good Day Out With The Tesoro Silver uMax:smile:

I went to a local park and about 15 minutes after I started detecting, I ran into this nice older gentleman who was out for a walk. He said that he had detected a little before, but It has been awhile. He mentioned that he had bought a White's 5000 for $35 that was at home in the closet. At any rate, I asked him if he wanted tag along and watch the Silver work its magic. He said he would like that, so I unplugged the headphones so he could also hear the audio tone. It didn't take him long and before he was calling out the tones that were good targets. I had the discrimination set a little above 'iron' and was able to run the sensitivity wide open without any chirping. I found 3 rings, 2 bullets, 2 cartridges, a dog tag, a silver trinket, a wheat penny, a dollar coin and around 3 dollars in clad and zinc pennies. I came real close several times to finding a gold ring.:) Maybe next time. My new hunting budding and I exchanged phones numbers and plan on hooking up again. I bet you he buys a Tesoro.:tesoro::thumbup:

The Tesoro Silver uMax is really fun to use.:bouncy:

You made his day tabman, that is great!.Bet he gets a silver umax, and we get a new cult member!.You think you want to get rid of the tejon?.

Yeah, he seemed to be really enjoying himself a lot.

It's beginning to look like I'm not going to be able to keep the Tejon. It's not heavy at all, but it's just a tad too much weight for my bad arm.

The Tejon is one really nice machine. I can see why it's so popular with relic hunters. It's goes deep on small targets like buttons.

The other bad news is I'm not going to be able to get a Deleon either, because it's the same weight as the Tejon.

To make my Tesoro detectors a little lighter, I'm switching over to a 8 inch brown doughnut coil from the 9 x 8 coil. They're 2-3 ounces lighter.

Heck, it's not me. The Tesoro Silver uMax would make anyone look good. I really like its audio tone and the way it responds to targets.

The only reason I didn't find a gold ring today was because I didn't put the coil over one. If I had, the Silver would have screamed out GOLD RING --- DIG!:)

You have amazing finds I'm excited to go try out my new SS Where do you live? Phoenix, Arizona seems to be detected to death park-wise as far as I have seen, lol You seem to live in a "suburban goldmine" I anticipate traveling out of the metro area soon to try my luck in some smaller towns. Anyhow thanks again for your shared tips, you are an asset to this community.

Deliveryboy. It is best never to think of an area as being pounded out, no matter where you live. The Tesoro machines will find all the stuff others have left behind if you learn your machine well. Tesoros are all I own. I started out with some other machines. Then I bought my 1st Tesoro. The Compadre. Now nothing else will do. I sold all of my other machines. One guy I saw detecting in a park told me it had been pounded and seemed to think I would not find anything there. This is the same park I pulled a dollar coin out of, numerous quarters, a lot of clad and one junk ring in about 3 hours of hunting with my Compadre. I have a mint Silver Sabre with very few hours on it. I don't know what the soil is like in Phoenix, I hope it is mild. I have mineralization where I live. The Silver Sabre is a nice machine, but I needed something with manual ground balance. Try running the silver Sabre at 4 and you should find some keepers. I would place some objects on the ground, sweep over an object and turn the discriminate knob up until you loose the signal on a piece of foil and then turn back to the left until it crackles on the foil. The silver Sabre hits hard on nickels. I found 3 or 4 of them in one hole. This is a good machine, enjoy.

Thanks for the advice and you are right, just seems the pickings are scarce here. I have had some great finds in my 4-5 months detecting so far. I guess I'm just excited to see new scenarios. I hit the same 5-10 parks quite frequently on rotation, some trashy as hell some like a barren desert lol. Anyhow took the Sabre out tonight for a hour or 2 and found about $1.25 in clad (incl. 3 quarters). I think I'm a bit spoiled with the Compadres pinpointing vs sabre, it seemed to be a bit finicky IMO on some targets. I tried Tabdogs method with the juice lid and estimated "4" was somewhat equivalent to 'Iron" so that is where i ran it. The soil here is mostly dry obviously with our 110+ weather lol but a few parks have some quality soil and are well maintained. The park I hit tonight was a basin park, they are basically pits with grass, mostly irrigated by rain and flooding (those rare occasions when we get it)
