Last weekend I got permission to MD a not so old Ghost town. I think the town was started in the very late 1800's to early 1900's so it's not real old. Their use to be a row of homes on both sides of the road. I think their was about 10 homes, a 1RSH and a church. Last weekend I just scouted a long one side of the road and found a nice 1900,o Barber dime and a 1907 IH. Not a lot but it's a disked up corn field and those are hard to MD in.
Today I went back there and started on the other side of the road. The first place didn't give me anything so I moved down to where the next house would of been. it didn't take too long before I found wheat an then another one. Then I found the 1887s Seated dime and that sure made my day. So far those coins come from the north and west side of where the house use to be. After I got south of the house I wasn't finding anything good so I went back to the north side and started going back over that area. The first time I went over that area I was in AM because most time I like to run in AM in farm fields because of all the iron. This time I ran in patt #1. I was getting tired of all the iron hits and I wanted to give my ears a rest, lol.
I was making a pass a long the north side real close to where the house use to be and I got a smooth by screaming #45. I dug out a shovel full of dirt and out rolled a silver coin and before I picking it up I could tell it was a half dollar. I got my little water bottle out to help get the dirt off and I about sh.. my pants when I could see that it was a 1895o Barber Half in real good shape. Now that ties my record of 9 Half Dollars in one year that I set in 2008. After I take the Half back to the car I get back to MDing an I find 2 more wheat's an then a 1899 IH. A lil after that I decide to make two more passes an then call it a day. I get to the end of the first pass an made a turn and that's when I get a broke up some but smooth screamer that was jumping from 42 to 45. I dug out some dirt an check the pile and it was in there. I went through the dirt until I found my 10th Half Dollar of the year and it was a nice 42d Walker. I could not believe it when I saw that half dollar in the dirt. After I finished that pass I figured this day can't get any better so I packed it up and went home.
Guess where I'm going MDing next weekend, lol
