i had something happen that was a bit surprising to me

I went to go get my sons haircut then it was off to the park. The weather has been pretty nice considering the time of year it is. I was doing my usuall MDing while my hubby was playing with our son on the swings. There were other kids and parents there of course. This guy gets out of his car and takes out <What appeared to be a TV video camera. I didnt pay any attention to it as strange things happen at that park often. Anyways i went on my merry little way along the grassy areas. i got a signal went to dig and saw something coming over my shoulder. I was like " what?" i turned around and it was the guy filming what I was doing. I guess he got permission from my hubby and apparently he had followed me for a little while filming. I asked who he worked for and he stated he was from a local news station channel 3 and he was getting some footage of people enjoying the unusaul nicer weather for the weather segment of the evening news. He however didnt have anything with the stations logo on it. so i emailed the station asking if they sent anyone out for this. havent heard anything back yet. so i guess we will see if I show up on the news or not. not knowing if this guy was legit is driving me crazy but why else would he want to video tape someone MDing a park?
 
had an ID on him - particularly showing on his clothing. Everyone here who works for tv/radio/etc has an ID. In the future dont let someone do this - nothing good can come from it. steve in so az

Or maybe he was hoping you would uncover the money being dug up from the Brinks Armored Car robbery...or.... hard to say and without 'credentials', a business card, ID card, logo on his vehicle it is hard to say who is was or why he was filming you.....also note that one cannot film you and put you on tv without written permission...that is why they smear faces of people in the background on news because they are trying to hide the identity of those accidently in the shot or refused to sign a permission form. I hope he was telling the truth and you get to see yourself detecting on TV.
 
Sure was strange like you said, dobbie! I hope nothing bad comes from his filming you or your hubby and son! There are wierd people in this world but I wouldn't worry until you find out if you aren't shown on the TV news! By the way what did you find when digging the hole? He might have been curious about your detecting and what you were finding!! Anyway, I hope and pray everything turns out well and all is okay! :) God Bless! Betty
 
before hand. so if he showed them anything i dont know. he didnt stay very long. and i made sure not to dig any of my signals till he left. But i can say this has never happened to me before. if it turns out he wasnt legit should i go to the police about him or not? I do have a permit to detect where i was issued by the city so i am good to go with that. this is just going to bug till i find out who he was. he was filming others at the park to. so it is hard to say.
 
I guess if he isn't really a news guy then you could call the police and talk to them and see if there have been any other reports about him taking pics or videos of others in the park or anywhere else! I would keep an eye on your son, for you never know how many kooks are out there, but I would say he was just interested in getting a story! Hopefully, there will be something on the news or in the newpapers concerning the nice day in the park! There have been some stories and pics in our County Journals about people in the parks, at picnics, fishing and so forth!

You brought to mind what happened when Tami was just a small child! She was only about 2 or 3, the best I can remember, and my ex, I and the kids and my cousin's family were all at a swimming area we had used for years. Tami was a very cute little girl and I'm not saying that, just because I'm her mother, as I am no beauty, and this young man and his wife or girlfriend had a camera and asked if he could take Tami's pic! We agreed and didn't see no harm in it, because this was back in the early 70's...she was born in 68....and I still don't know whatever happened to the pic that he took of her! I think they might have been newlyweds and maybe interested in children!!

And then I was MD'ing at an Elementary School and these teenagers were there and came up to me and asked me if they could make a video of me while they interviewed me for a High School project! Well, I was embarrassed and nervous as I looked awful from the equipment I had on and being dirty and sweaty, but I talked to them and they thanked me and I never knew what happened from then on....hopefully, they saw how I looked and talked on the viewing and trashed it....anyway I hope so! :lol: :) God Bless! I had a photographer that was to do the same because he was supposed to get pics of people enjoying the day.
 
i emailed the station twice and finally got a response back. i had described what the guy looked like and the car he was in. Also what he had filmed.They had recieved some videos from the guy but didnt use them. So at least I know. Next time some guy comes up on me with a video camera I think I just may respond a little different and not try to be so friendly. :biggrin:
 
Glad everything turned out okay, dobbie! Wearing headphones makes it hard to hear anyone coming up on you while swinging and digging! But by not using the headphones, would make it harder to hear the coin sounds, especially the deeper ones! Just try to be aware of who is around you and look up and around, forward and backward, now and then, for it is better to be safe than sorry! Good luck on finding the goodies and God Bless! Betty
