i hate people

You must have a lot of patience........ people that live around bigfatca "Long island NY" need a simple answer that will make them wonder why they opened there mouths to begin with, "Fuc* Off" usually works and ends the conversation right then and there. But again I am 275 pds and 6' 3" So that may intimidate them a little..:starwars:.. ....People on long island don't know how to mind there fing business and usually need a forceful response to leave quite people alone.

Let me give you a tip that works really well.

Carry a bag of junk that you have dug from other sites. I was approached by a guy
at a soccer field that said to me, "You think you ought to be detecting here." He was in charge
of the work crew that he had come in tending the field. When I showed him all the rusted tin cans
and other junk his eyes oped big. "Well, bless your heart. Ok but make sure you don't leave any holes for us
to deal with."
Later I found out The property the soccer field is on was at one time owned by his family. They had donated it
but the family kept a hand in it. The point is if you show these nay-sayers all the junk you've collected "that could be a danger "
to the kids and adults playing on the field, that usually shuts them up. Its than more than once.
So DON'T throw all that junk rusted tin cans plastic bottle etc. Save a bunch of in in a bag and carry it with you.
Now I know it's a pain in the back side, buut it will save your backside one day! Trust me!

Good idea.... For the ones that speak to you nicely to begin with. Its the ones with the chips on there shoulders that deserve worse. Love you kitty pics by the way.

i agree!..whatever it takes!.most people will not bother you anyway!
there are 2 reasons for this:.

1) they think you are weird!
2)they don't want to talk to people who are weird!

unfortunately to the "uninitiated",YOU have no 'rights"!
expect to encounter this behavior from time to time in the field!
it can be disconcerting IF you allow it to bother you!..been doin' this too long

If they see a robbery or someone stealing a car or mugging or any thing on that line they look the other way.
 
Several years ago I had a "couple" in a car "making out" in a fairly "public" way. The guy started yelling at me with the same attitude and rhetoric. I ignored him and he actually called the cops. I stayed there and waited intentionally. Well when the cops showed up I showed my ID and told him my side of things. Then I told the cops about their little "necking" session. So the cops walked over to talk to this clown and upon arrival to said vehicle noticed that the guys pants were undone and she was not much better off either. The cops then removed them both from the vehicle and after a few minutes promptly arrested both of them for Public Indecency. Then the cops walked over to me and told me that 3 other people had called about these clowns as well. He said thanks and told me if I had any other problems to call him "personally" and he would deal with it himself. That I could detect all I wanted and no one ever bothered me after that. @ weeks later at the same place another couple walked over and said thanks. They were the ones who had called the cops on that clown as well. I loved it. Still do. !!!!! By the way I found 2 Merc Dimes and a Barber Quarter. I was happy. Best wishes. PEACE:RONB :lmfao:

had nothing better to do so she called the cops and told them that I was "stealing" the grass. !!!!!!!!!!! Funnier still was that the cop who answered that call turned out to be none other than my own uncle. After we talked we both had a good laugh and nothing else was said.!!!!!!! :stars: :heh: PEACE:RONB
 
I had a guy come up to me and say "you know, there are cameras in this park and they are watching what you are doing", and I quickly replied (with energy) "great! Then they will see how much trash I've been digging out of the park and throwing in that dumpster over there! Maybe they'll put me on the city payroll for me for protecting the kids that play here". The guy didn't have a reply and turned and walked away.
The people around here seem to mind their own business. The only other encounters I've had have been kids asking if I've found anything...thus opening the door for me to educate them a bit and get them excited about MD'ing. If I do encounter an "unpleasant" individual that I can't deescalate with words, I'm fully capable and willing to do my best Chuck Norris impersonation. :starwars:
 
I recall being hassled by a dipwad on the beach who said he was going to beat me up and take my detector and I said that he was welcome to try but that he would be better off walking away while he still had two arms and legs that worked and that he will look awful funny with a metal detector hanging out of his a...s. He cursed and swore and said he was going to bring his mates back to do me and I said go for it, that will even the odds up a bit for ya and I like a bit of a play now and again.
After he left I left, no point stiring too much trouble hey.
 
I've dealt with a few things like this....it doesn't always have to be a battle. As long as you keep it neat, and don't buy in to their emotional "attitude", things always go well.

My biggest complaint here is about the time it takes up so all I do is show 'em a needle you've found, garbage recovered, and have 'em show you the "damage" you've made (like others have said) but hey...a little of this helps the hobby. Apparently people attitudes vary as to where you live. Out west here, I see almost none of this "nastiness" but usually have to answer things like "Where do the clippings go?" and "Does it find paper money?". The "New Yorker" response seems to be fighting for a first choice use thing here! Never used it...totally appreciate it! (Just wouldn't fly well around here......people have more time to stir things up.) I like to spend the time digging.
