I have a question about the XS and numbers. I always use the crosshairs but was wondering if it would be worth it to use the

numbers like they do with the other explorers. Those of you that use the ET for example cite finding good coins at the 36 to 46 number. Although the XS doesn't have the FE number it still has the same CO number. What do you think?

I find the use of the digital screen ok to use for checking/verifying what i think is a dig or no dig target. I know the numbers, but there is just too much bounce to make them reliable for me to hunt with. Anyone that has learned the information that the smartscreen gives them and the visual speed on targets likely wont be using the digital screen much. When i do use it im more concerned with the Cond digits as well. Its getting to where i use the smartscreen less as well for TID, the tones seem to work best for me. Another reason i try not to use the screens too often is .... i find myself looking for a reason NOT to dig and i was missing out on some interesting finds. Dont get me wrong there are some very effective hunters using either screen.

Sandnsea,

I used an XS for 10 years and was never really sold on the digital numbers. I hunted with ironmask, set to about 6, if I remember correctly. I was most concerned with the sound, hunting in conductive, multi-tones. I would watch the cursor movement and it's approximate location on the screen and watch for it bouncing, left and right.

I am now using an E-trac and find that the ferrous numbers are handy, but really only for clueing me that I may have a rusty nail or similar in the ground with a possible good target. I still hunt by sound and watch the cursor and numbers as additional clues as to what I may have under the coil.

Good luck,

Rich
