seriously though I agree time with a detector is more important than which one it is for the most part, if a person knows a bit about detecting they will know and have a pretty good idea what they want and what sort of hunting its for and probably 3 or 4 is all that's needed to cover all detecting areas, just ignore my list I don't have that many innochio

now don't get me started on fishing rods need one for each sort of fishing style, beach, boat, lake, river etc.. then sub categories of species in those areas

owned many to many fishing rods and then gotta have the right reel and bla bla bla

I agree Tesoro's only mistake was saying they are bringing out a new detector 3 years ago bet they don't do that again

Technology is racing ahead in consumer electronic markets. We see this in metal detecting too but the basic signal technology has not changed in many years. Tesoro machines work as well finding metal as any my friends use and frankly I never feel outgunned with either my Compadre or Vaquero. I find stuff so do they. What I would like is all the simplicity of my two current machines and be able to have them waterproof to the degree of say an AT Pro from Garrett. In other words one 9 volt, the same small size plus light weight, and interchangeable coil as the Vaquero.

I did not know that the old golden sabre had two tone, I would love a vaquero or cibola even a tejon....set up with that notch knob. That would be very cool !

they have a good base's with the vaq and tejon to do something. maybe take the vaquero, put a small id number readout on it so you do not have thumb the disc knob. kinda what the nokta fors core has. water proof it to 10-15 feet. so you can hunt next to or in streams, rivers and not worry about it getting wet. have the option to use headphones or not. be able to use it on wet salt sand or even in the surf effectively. price it around 7-8 hundred dollars. no need for multi tones, depth indicator, GPS, a cup holder, etc. a 10-15 year warranty on it, which would still be the best in the business. surely this should not be hard for a company who designs and makes metal detectors. but instead, all they have managed to come up with is a reinvented coil and change the color of a few models in the past 8-10 years. come on, people are loosing interest with them as a company. just a handful of die hard fans is not going to keep them in business and with their lack of communication with the customers they have now, what are they expecting from us. with no facebook page updates in nearly 2 years, no interest in their brand groups either. in the forums, when the do come on, we get scolded like kids for wanting a little info after all this time. and we suppose to have the confidence in them to actually come out with a new model that they said they are coming out with years ago? sorry but, what are they possibly thinking there. it's nuts. does this make sense to anyone else except me?

The 'original' Golden Sabre does not have the Dual-Tone ID. It had Notch Disc., but didn't have the dual-tone audio like the Royal Sabre had at that time.

The Golden Sabre Plus was the first Golden Sabre model to have the Dual-Tone audio. Then the Golden Sabre II, which was made with the Pantera circuit board to have a newer "turn-on-and-go" [size=small](aka preset Ground Balance)[/size] Golden Sabre model with Dual-Tone, plus it used the newer ED-120 Discriminate circuitry.

This has been a pretty good thread, and I find myself agreeing with lots of what has been said by all....
a lot of positive stuff and some justifiably negative stuff....it doesn't get much better. I will add my two, one Positive comment, and a question which can be taken how you like.

I have to wonder why the Golden Umax has been discontinued...I have heard the reason...but how on earth can you lose the "blueprint" for something that precious, and not be able to reproduce it?

You can have all the bells an whistles, I have tried quite a few newer detectors out there but I kept going back to good old Tesoro's to boot and I like the Older model Tesoro's better than newer Tesoro's too! Loving my Tesoro Silver Sabre µMax I would absolutely be in love with it if I could afford a 5 inch coil for her ! I might be dirt poor but I got a Tesoro LOL
