Paths are good place to hunt; often times the inline skaters, bikers, exercising moms with/without strollers, etc. drop all kinds of things. Don't find much on the path itself as most of it is found by daily walkers.

There very well could be something there worth finding…I have a similar path near me that I tried to locate a car key that someone lost…hard to tell what else is there hidden by leaves.

Don't necessarily need a large coil but something that can navigate the trash. Targets may not be all that deep because the ground is usually packed along trails.
Found this just on an edge of a hiking/biking trail that gets daily traffic and has had it's share of detectorists hitting the area pretty hard since detectors came out.
Danish Indies 25 skilling 1763. Lots of tiny iron bits in the area so I used my Tesoro Tejon with 8x9 concentric.

How do you set up your Tejon ?
I bought a new one couple years ago.
Been layed up. Only use it in my yard when I can.

When they use the high speed blowers to clean up after themselves, anything that someone losers gets blown to the side of these paths, found quite a few good targets by doing this.

Last spring I did a bit of research. Used some lidar maps and found old trails that were unmarked on modern maps. Buddy and I found about a dozen french coins from the early to mid 1600's as well as a few from 1800's. Lidar really did help in this case.

Let me ask you metal detector guys this. What coil would you use when walking along the trails. Perhaps
the garrett 5" x 8"in. or maybe the nel sharpshooter coil.

The 5×8 is a great coil.

For open places.
The Nel Ultimate 13" is fantastic.
And lighter than any coil of it size.

Amount of trash and Iron frequency should dictate the size of the coil no matter where you hunt. Larger coils are often less productive since they are more prone to masking, more sensitive to EMI and have less separation.
Open fields and beaches you will do ok with larger coils, trashy parks you will do well with smaller coils, and high iron riddled areas you will do well with a med or small concentric especially with analog machines. DD coils are prone to iron masking.
