I have a strange coin, has me baffled......

I was out to an old house site today and found what I think is a half cent 1834. But the front looks like the half cent but the back has an eagle on it like the 1837 token half cent. I am baffled. Any one have any ideas on this one.

Looks like you have an 1834 Dime. Mintage of 635,000. The diameter should be 18.5mm vs. 23.5mm for the half cent.
Cool find, even with the hole!

Toby

Here's an example to compare with:

The design features are of a bust silver coin. But the metal color, corrosion and lack or reeded edge suggest not silver. Can you picture it next to a dime or quarter to give indication of size? Perhaps if it is silver it was damaged in a fire.
