I have an axe to grind

Found this axe head during lunch on this early 1800's farm. This makes the fourth axe head so far! They are all different.
This axe head still has the wedges in the handle hole.
It was really crusted up and took quite a bit to get it to where it is now. Don't even know how old it is.

Hi Tony; Axe's haven't changed much in a few thousand years, but I would say yours probably date back into the 1800s. The elongated shape is why I believe it's older. Nice find <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

found four this year so far on this same farm. Three of them were found in the same side yard about 50 feet from each other making me think that was the yard they did most of the chopping for the stove. This one was found about 150 feet away. Strange.
