I have been using

Mike Chgo area

Well-known member
Google maps ariel views and it is doing good things for me. I have found some beaches on inland lakes and Lake Michigan. Also while looking for beaches I have found a few areas that appear to have abandoned houses. Good tool for detecting for sure. Found areas to park for getting to the downtown Chicago beaches that I couldn't see driving around.

Google maps are a good tool, but only where you get good definition.

They do show up features invisible to you whilst on the ground but easily seen from on high.

This knowledge can aim you in the right direction.

I have tried to use them looking for old workings our remote goldfields here but, as the areas are not occupied and very remote, the Google Maps are of lesser quality, very blurry and rather useless.
