I Hope It's Just A Rumor

:tesoro: There are many rumors going around about Tesoro. I have heard that they are in financial trouble. I have also heard that there is just one of the sons at the company now. One of them supposedly left due to illness? I hope that's not true,...our prayers are with them if it is true. One reputable dealer ( I won't say which one so please don't ask) ...said that these rumors started when Tesoro started having trouble with the water units. Whatever the case may be I like Tesoro and how they do business and I hope that there is no truth to any of this. It has been my experience over the past 25 years that the metal detecting community is very supportive of each other. Let's all hope for the best for Tesoro for many more years to come. RDF

Tesoro also known as:
Industrial Detection Systems - IDS
Designs and manufactures high value metal detection systems for industrial, commercial,
and military applications. IDS is a wholley owned subsidiary of Tesoro Electronics.

SD-1

The SD-1 unit detects metal objects (staples, paper clips, straight pins, etc.) in batches
of checks passed through the unit by hand.

STREET SWEEPER
Street-Sweeper-600-sm.jpg

The Street Sweeper is designed for checking a wide swath of road for large hidden metal
(unmarked manhole covers, water valve covers). The street sweeper is a pulse machine that
runs up to eight coils, providing large coverage (up to eight feet) with localized target indication.

FMDU

The Fetch Metal Detector Unit (FMDU) was designed for the Naval Explosive Ordinance Technical
Division

 Wow, Thanks Sven for posting the info on Tesoro's other projects. I did not know about any of this :surprised: I hope others will post some more good news too. The metal detector industry seems a little shaky right now so anything positive will help. I have a Silver Saber II that is a very good machine. It's never had to be serviced since I got it. :cool:RDF

I hope everything is ok with them.

about a year ago I contact them via email asking technical questions about their detectors and they were very nice and helpful, I've got a good impression about their costumer's service.

Rumors...........probably started by another manufacturer hoping to boost sales of newly re-dressed, I mean released detectors.............

speaking with my dealer about this, and he said that Tesoro is his number 1 selling brand. I would think that some folks are too biased about brands. All the other companies are dressing up their detectors with new "skin" and giving them a fancy name to sell more detectors. This of course, is a marketing tool that they use to keep the market active. If the truth ever came out that detector technology hasn't changed in 20 years - no company would be selling new detectors. I see a lot of high end detectors for sale on the forums. If they were the "cats meow", then why are they selling them?

Bulletman

they is selling them so as to get the new and improved cats meow.

Whatever the truth is, product lines need to be updated from time to time to generate sales and interest even if those changes are only superficial/cosmetic. The fact that they haven't come out with anything new for awhile is starting to raise questions. There's no doubt that Tesoro makes a good product and has a loyal client base that is genuinely happy with it, but sooner or later, for whatever reasons, some of those customers will begin to drift to other brands or out of the hobby completely and if they are not being replaced by enough new customers then it becomes a problem. Whatever is happening at the moment with Tesoro may have nothing do do with finances, it could just be that they're working on the next big thing, but they probably need to get something new out pretty soon.....

I don't buy into all the hype about new detectors on the market. Some of the hype is getting so deep you need knee boots to visit the forum. Tesoro has always made a good detector that works well and is priced to where most can afford one. I expect Tesoro has a much better profit margin in their industrial detectors than with the hobby side of it, but they shouldn't forget the hobby division got them where they are now. I will continue to support Tesoro and hope they do have a new detector in the works, but if they don't my present detector works just fine.

I don't pay attention to these rumors. Part of the problem with rumor is that people tend to give it too much credibility. If everyone just ignored the rumors, they'd go away. I sold one of those "high end" detectors from another company that I see is dressing it up for a third time. I'm done with all the hype of those other companies. I bought into all that hype hook line and sinker and sunk a lot of money for nothing. I'm now back with my Tesoros for good. If others have the jack to play around with all those high end fancy detectors that really don't work any better than my Tesoros work, go for it. I work hard for my money and I prefer to use it on things that do work, not hype that steals my money out of my pocket. Tesoros work and they work extremely well for the money. If they didn't I wouldn't have sold that high end detector that was packaged up three different times. The proof is in the pudding and Tesoro has proven itself to me.

Oh, and by the way....Tesoro is just find from what I can see.....I just sent my Stingray (water detector) in for some repair work about six months ago and Tesoro did a complete refurbishing on it...this thing looks like a brand new detector....and they did if for FREE!! They put on a new coil, new faceplate, new coil wires and new headphones attached to the detector...... Evidently Tesoro must be doing just fine.

I am a Tesoro dealer and this is no rumor, James sold out to Vince so that he can pursue a new career. So Vince has it all in his hands. This is all I know as fact. Ok good hunting all and be safe in the field. GO TESORO !

Tesoro units will be running when the high tech rubber control push button high end "Find treasure not trash" units are broken and no one to repair them. I suspect Willis at East Texas Metal detectors will have his work cut out in the future trying to put that stuff back together. a lot of the old school guys on Vintage could probably work on a Tesoro if the unthinkable happened. I will quit the hobby before i use imported junk. Get a sifter and a Shovel!

That part might be true - what about Tesoro financial troubles? Do you know anything about that? I wasn't speaking specifically about whether or not Vince had it all or not, I was speaking in general terms about Tesoro rumors. As with all rumors, I don't tend to give them much credibility. If you know some things as being fact certainly then share that with the rest of us. Regarding the other rumors about their financial stability, if no one has any facts on that, then I give it no credibility.

I emailed and they said they were going strong-as I expected- and that James left for health reasons. IMHO, as long as they have a Compadre, they're alright.:clapping::cheekkiss::tesoro:

Here's my 2 cents.
I really like my Tejon.
With that said I really like my Minelab'S.
Like fishing poles, you need more than one
if you want to do it right. The Tesoro has it's place,
but the "hype" as it's referred to isn't hype at all.
Each model from each manufacturer has it's place. -- wow that sounded disqusgustingly politically correct.
It's like sterotyping..... there is a reason for it.-- reason being it's often true.
Don't bash brands, only bash your own experiences.
I'm going to throw up now.

it's still ONLY got a 2 year warrantee....and since I'm on a limited retirement income i'll stick with Tesoro. I've sent my ACE 250 in twice and it was well taken care of (still under warrantee!) but what about after that? My Vaquero hasn't given me any problems but not a problem financially if it does break. Life has gotten simpler for me with Tesoro products.

solve one small problem with a connector and keep shipping one of their most popular detectors ... how can they even think about developing something new.

No question about thier cost to quality ratio ... and their customer service is top notch ...but ...
How long has it been since they shipped a water detector (Tiger Shark)?
Is that good business?
Almost anyone here could have made a better call on the connector issue a long time ago.
In fact some of us did post a few very good ideas.
Instead they let the engineers run amock and the result was production stopped with a BIG loss in sales.
And that has an impact on the bottom line profit.

Perhaps they should have just bought new waterproof connectors from Garrett.

people are getting into the water ,as a result of the high price of gold
they NEED to get this straightened out,or continue to "blow" income!
