I Just bought A Sea hunter Mark II....Got A Question

I had it out on a snowboarding hill once, and had trouble using it, as the metal D-rings on my winter boots would interfere with it. The depth of the snow was 2-3 feet in places. I did manage a couple of 2 dollar coins in the top 6 inches, but was wondering what kind of depth I can expect to get in a freshwater beach, where the sand and water is alkaline with some mineralization. I can run my VLF machines at about 80% sensitivity before they just get too unstable. Of course, I won't be wearing any winter boots in the water either , so is (expecting) getting a soft quiet signal on say a dime or small gold ring at 12 inches unreasonable. That would be in standard trash elimination with the elimination set at zero, as there should not be too many signals where I plan to use it.

Wish I had an answer. I am gong to be watching out for what you post on this machine, I have watched your posts enough to know you know what you are talking about. I am wanting a waterproof detector, and I am torn between this one and a Tiger Shark. I still don't know which one to get.

the T.Net classifieds for something like $750. I have one and was working an inland lake (loaded with iron)with it. My cash to trash ratio was better than with my VLF's and it went really too deep to reasonably dig in some cases. A lot of people seem to put down this detector for some reason but, from my experiences, it's in there slugging it out with the big boys. ..Willy.

If you are hunting saltwater beaches, the Tigershark will run marginally to poor. The Minelab Excaliber is a great water machine for both salt water and freshwater hunting, but then you are buying a machine that costs more. PI's work in both saltawter and freshwater but don't really discrimate too well, although with the Infinium there are a few vtricks to cancel out most iron targets. I already have 2 other VLF water machines, as I hunt only freshwater beaches. They both are great! I bought the PI to hunt some beaches that have pounded to death, yet still have both gold rings and silver coins at great depths. That's why I bought the Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II.

Hi John, I guess one might think that alot of people don't live at the beach or have experience with that detector, I don't think the term "PI wannabes" is fitting!

To answer your question, I have used a number of PI's at the beach when I lived in Florida, most would do what you want from that detector and would think it would do the job. A small gold ring may be questionable with the Usec rating of that detector and at depth. One of Eric's would. I am not encourged about your expectation of the discrimination control. Don

..I don't ask many questions specific to Garrett PI's on this forum. It seems, rightly or wrongly, that not many people here are all that interested in them and, consequently, you shouldn't expect much of a response. What I did in order to get info on Garrett PI's was to Google it (advanced search w. sale, sell, price, etc. in the "do not include" line). There's actually quite a bit of info out there and that's what settled me on the Infinium. I think that there's some using them that hang at the T. Net forums too. ...Willy.

Thanks for the reply Don. I wasn't even considering using the discrimination on the machine, as I am aware of it's limitations. I just wanted to get an approx. answer as to the depth I might expect on the machine I recently purchased. Didn't mean to offend anybody. "PI Wannabes" is a reference to the fact that there are probably more people wanting more more information about PI machines then there are users on this forum. I see that most threads begin with a question. I was hoping that with this forum specializing in PI usage, theory and operation that I was going to get some information about the PI machine that I purchased. I too am a "Wannabe", and as with most others, am trying to collect as much information as I could on this type of machine. I did get more information on some other forums. Appreciate your reply! :)

Hi,
Why not ask over on the Beach and Water detecting, or the Garretts Forum. Most people posting on this forum either build their own, or use Eric Fosters designs. I'd have a go if I knew the answer, sorry.

One of the reasons why you got lots of hits without any replies, is that people will hit the posts showing attached images, your post looks like it should have an attached image, so you got a disproportionately high number of hits to subject ratio.

Cheers
Kev.
