I just completed my first Etrac hunt and I have some??????

I dug maybe 5 coins and they were all 1960's and 1970's lincoln memorials. They rang-in at 11-40 or 12-39,40. I believe that is normal but I got several 12-43,44,45's that ended up being screw caps. My question is do screw caps usually sound like and id as silver dimes or am I doing something wrong. I'm just using the stock Minelab coins mode until I get familiar with the Etrac.

Thanks,

Shane

Yes the screw caps often ID like silver as they do on many machines. On the bright side rusty crown caps are a non issue with the coins mode unlike most other machines with DD coils

arh the dreaded screw cap better still tell me a number they dont come in at  after awhile it will get easier hearing the diff in coins from screw caps but it takes a bit of digging and coil movement style to ID them but then its all part of the fun and not all sites are full of them and some are but if you get rid of them then the good stuff comes easier :clapping:

screw caps come in at 12-39 12-40 around here, and zincs are about the same, copper penney's ring 12-43,44,45 while clad dimes ring 12-44,45...so yes it takes a little getting used to and differs by area(well at least for me it does) so far a whole tribe of IH's have come out of the same park I always hunt, I have not found one there, they ring in at 11,12-36,38,39 every time I get those numbers it's a zincoln.

On the positive side I dug some of the screw caps at around 10 inches. This shows that the Erac gets good depth around here but if screw caps are that deep I've got to dig everything. I just had to live in a town where most folks favorite soda has a screw top (Sundrop). Man they do sound like silver. I got excited every time I heard one. I've got to find some good sites so I can really give this Etrac a good workout. Thanks for the info folks. That is also the number one junk target around here for the Fisher CZ's.

Screw caps can come in like wheats or a bit higher, sometimes you can tell them because they have a scratchy edge of sound just as you come off them. Not always but enough to pay attention to that.

WOW screw caps at 10"? That would assume fill IMO unless you are on a beach. If I were digging caps at 10", I would find another site.
