nobody has been using it lately....so I want to post it here so all can read......last time I was using the Ex XS I had to use back light to see.....and when I did it went zonkers on me....Now I know this school yard is a electrical noisey place but this should not happen......so now I am screwed if I got to use it in the dark......is this a internal short somewhere?.....and has anyone experienced this before.

Mattockman, it could be a circuit joint playing up...
When I sold my Explorer about 2 years ago I decided to replace the face plate of the detector ( as it had a crack on the edge.)
Minelab South Australia couldn't repair it in time for me to send it on to the guy who bought it from me ~ (Xmas was fast approaching.)

So they sent me the face plate so I could do the job myself, ~ ( the technician told me to be real careful,)
as you have to separate the circuit boards to release the face plate and LCD screen.

Man o man Mattockman, there are multitudes of fine pins in there linking up the circuit boards, made me very nervous!:surprised:
I managed to get the job done.

It would only take one of these pins to have a bad connection to cause your problem!

I had to do a running repair on my Garrett GTI 2500 in the bush once, they have a a similar method to link their circuit boards.
