I like the 8000

Took the 8000 out for a spin with the 11DD. I really like this coil better then the standard one and I am use to it on the LTD and F75! This machine runs so smooth! It is so quite that it is a nice rest from the LTD but the LTD runs more quite then the F75 so it just keeps getting better. I wanted a backup to the above mentioned detectors. One thing was for sure EMI can ruin a good hunt on the F75 or LTD but I know that these machines are a bit hyper for a reason...The 8000 was to be my...when all else fails..lets hope this machine works...and it does. I really think the depth is on par with my F75 but not as deep as my LTD. The tones on the 8000 are not as nice or give as much information as the LTD or F75 but no other machine really has. I like the 8000 better then the F5.

I was hunting in the Gold Country of Calif, in an area that has buildings from about 1895...I have hunted this area before a few times but this time the 8000 picked out these hard to find buttons. Didn't matter what size the buttons were the machine hit hard and deep The machine is light and fast and holds a ground bal. I was hunting at a sens of 92 with a disc of 16. I was only hunting about an hour and a half but I would say as a relic hunter it can hold its own with the LTD or F75. I have not hit a lot of iron so that will be the next test how well it does at unmasking.

Why does the omega make a siren sound sometimes when holding in the gb pad. Even if coil is up in the air. Not all the time but once in a while?????

Hi Low-Boy
I have a F5 and was thinking of getting a Omega. I've read a lot about the 08 having the same depth as the T2 and F75 on High conductors like coins and that sparked my interest in getting one. Do you think the 08 is a step up from the F5? What's your thoughts on both detectors?

help advice needed!!!!!

The siren sound is basically a "can't ground balance" signal, because the coil may not have been on the ground when the button was pressed. If you ignore that sound and just keep pumping it will stop and ground balance itself.

I think the 8000 is a step up and it is great with EMI it may be two or three steps up....it is my main backup. I didn't like the F5 in the city and at some parks becsue of the EMI my friend has one and we hunted me and my LTD and his 8000 he found more then me because of the EMI but you have to use the 11DD coil.

Ok guys, what you are hearing is the "absence of ground" alarm and it is perfectly normal. Don't be alarmed "pardon the pun" as the machine is doing exactly what the engineers programmed it to do. Alarm you when you are trying to ground balance with no ground present. Once in a while you will find a particular spot where the machine will not want to ground balance and the sound does not want to go away. Simply move a few steps away and try again. If the sound quickly diminishes everything is A-OK!!

But a few years back I read a post where a guy scared off a bear with his Lobo ST using the loud tones for the battery check when you first turn on the detector. The GB alarm on the Omega goes one better!

My experience with the 8000 is much the same as Low-Boys in that I went right behind a place that I had carefully detected with my F-75, F-70 and CZ3D and started unmasking keepers that the above mentioned detectors missed. I have yet to find a spot that I cannot crank the sensitivity up to max and still have a stable detector. The key to a stable Omega 8000 is coil motion. With the sensitivity cranked the 8000 is noisy when sitting still but once the coil is put into motion everything becomes nice and quiet. If you already own an Omega I suggest you start saving and purchase the 11" coil as quickly as you can as it transforms the Omega into a totally different detector. Now that I have the larger coil, the stock coil spends all of its time in my back-up pack.
The LTD sounds like a killer detector; however, it simply does not fit into my budget at the present time; therefore, I will just keep using the 8000 until I can find a way to justify to my wife the expense. Hopefully, when I am ready to take a step up First Texas will have a new flagship that may end up trumping the LTD. From everything I have been reading and based on a few e-mails with FT it appears that something new is just around the corner.

I read on a forum that a new Teknetics is coming out. Is it better then the 8000 or T2? We will have to wait and see. I would think it would be the next step up from the 8000 and maybe a new platform that may launch a new flagship next year...
