I LIKE THE PARK :jump:

I went to the Boro Park today and I was not disappointed. I found a '57 Roosie, my second buffalo nickel, a huge religious medallion and some clad.

The fabled old grounds keeper who smokes a pipe and has reportedly run people off for detecting was buzzing all around me on the mower but never said a word. Good thing too because I had my permission slip with me and was not about to back down.

The medallion seems to be Italian, any thoughts? BTW it's not silver but it is heavy and looks to have a copper alloy core. It did ring consistently in the coins range.

Very kool B2H I like going to the park also!!

UW,

It may be silver plated but I have no way to tell. The core is a bronzish color. I also found a website that translates all of the Latin writings on it into English. In Catholic circles it's called the medal of St. Benedict. From what I've gathered, devout Catholics usually have this somewhere on their person while on their death bed. The bold words on the front say ; May we be strengthened by His presence in the hour of our death.

It was a bit of a nitro, when I first popped it out I saw the back first and thought it was a reale. I'm still tickled with it though. When I first started detecting I never really gave relics a thought but I enjoy finding them almost as much as coins.

I was also very glad to see that this "hunted out park" still had some old coins as well. It's a fairly large park and I barely scratched the surface so there's still acres and acres left to explore.

The 2500 is a great machine and I always try to sneak a little ALL METAL practice into every hunt. It's clearly a more challenging mode of detecting but should pay some dividends once I get the hang of it.
