I have been playing around with me S.E. and after reading the manual and the Andy S. book I used the program that Mike Moultry has in the book. I really like the tones that the coins give as I have tinnitus in both ears and can't stand the real high pitch sounds. The only thing I changed was that I hunted in semi-auto at 24 as I was next to some power lines. I was hunting in a bean field that used to be a site of an old church and have found a few Indian cents,Barber dimes,wheats and V nickles in the past. I was only out an hour and found a couple of wheats and a cool old compact for make up. One wheat was a 1920 and I could not read the date on the other. Both wheats were around 6" and the compact was darned near 12"! Too bad I am getting this thing figured out this late in the season. One other thing. The ground was very dry and it was not easy digging! I hope I can go out a few more times before it gets too cold!! Thanks everyone for your help in the past and happy hunting!!

Mike is certainly one of our Explorer Guru's and has some good ideas, if you haven't seen his meter cursor movements do find them as they are really a help.
Personally its been noted on manual sensitivity it doesn't overcompensate and cause you depth loss so its what I always use so might try it...
 
On my EXP II you touch the manual sensitivity icon and it turns on an arrow that goes around the number that you set - then the machine will adjust the sensitivity as it senses the dirt under the coil. It also quiets the headphone noise a bit.
Most folks believe that manual setting will go deeper then semi auto.

I spelled Mikes last name wrong!! opps! The S.E.was chattering near the electric lines. That is why I went with semi-auto. If I go back further in the field I will try it on manual. The compact is a Poudre Djer-Kiss Kerkoff. I think it was made in the mid 20s.

If I'm correct the Semi-Auto will change sensitivity from 1- to whatever number you have designated

example: If you set it at 25 on auto it will try all sensitivity levels up to 25? but not up to 32?

another quick question about interference: today I was running manual sensitivity near some power lines in a yard, the chatter was un-bearable. I brought my sensitivity down to a measly 14... and the chatter still continued, I also did another noise cancel (didn't help much at all). Is the SE Pro really this bad with power lines? It was my understanding it does pretty well with them. But it seems my machine is pretty much worthless near them... if anyone can chime in that would be great.
