Off to the closed school yard this Am.
Found a new quater then my 1st Silver
1963 dime... only down about 2 inches
go figure... Then a fellow shows up
ans says hes the Maint Supt. I introded
myself and told him I spoke on the phone with him
Tuesday. He asked what i found and i showed him.
Then he asked where and i said right here..
he looked down then said I was the only person
that had his permission to hunt. I told him I appreciated
that and that I would not tell anyone else about it
I showed him the other areas Id found stuff in and he
said the last guy he let in used a Shovel!!! a LONG hanlde shovel

Anyway I guess i done ok but im STIL leary about digging
those solid tones at 8 o 9 inches or more...
any suggestions using the Garret digger as my tool??

Some targets that your detector says is deep can be small targets just below the surface. I would suggest a Predator digging knife. Cut a 3 sides square plug (flap). Keep your cut strait up and down as to not cut the roots. Flip it up and over. Buy a Garrett Propointer to locate your target. Then lay the flap back and step on it until it's flush with the ground. Keep you back to anyone that could be looking. This is not to be sneaky. But to keep them from seeing you dig. Because busy bodies will scream.

My advice? Ditch the Garrett digger - its too short and the angle is all wrong for deep digging of small, tight holes.
Even the much ballyhooed Lesche diggers didn't get that right. They just make up for poor ergonomics with heft and lots of nice welding.

What you want is the Wilcox 18" 250S:

This is a favorite of gardeners the world over and is specifically designed to dig deep, narrow holes. It is nearly indestructible and will last for years. I remember Ed Fedory said that if he could only have one tool, it would be his Wilcox digger.
They run $15-$20; look for them at gardening sites for the best prices.

PS - AFAIK, the Garrett digger is a Wilcox 102, or copy thereof.

Good job on the silver. Didn't you post that you were done this year? I told you to go as long as possible! I hunted last year on 12/28 in the snow BTW.
