I must say-Going from a strict beep & dig to a ID detector was a leap...

But I think I'm going to learn to love this newfangled technology...

Just got a Gamma from Monte last week. As a coil scrubbing Tesoro lover I am a bit set in my ways. But there are sections/parks that have so much trash a target ID machine was the only way to reasonably search them. Case in point...

Got this ring(10K with a large portrait in Onyx I think) and a coin I have yet to look up-Chinese?. Both were in an area I had hunted with my Troy X2. I had my discrimination up past Zinc due to the trash & just "silver surfed". I decided to go back for a recheck with my new machine-Yipee!!

BTW-I still hate "tones" 3 & 4. But setting 1 & 2 allow me to prioritize & size the targets like I did with my Tesoro's. To me its the only way to go with the Gamma...

Cheers & THANKS MONTE!!!

I just looked up the coin...Its my oldest yet @ aprox 1790!!

CH'IEN-LUNG dynasty but the minta mark does not exactly match the samples given. I heard the Chinese immigrants used older coins well into the 20th century so it may have been dropped in the 40's or later. It was tangled in the grass roots just under the surface. The hole caught it I guess...

Cheers!

:teknetics:Nice finds !!! :detecting:

About time someone else got a Gamma! Nice Finds Darkflight! You will enjoy it a lot!!!!!

First, to Darkflight ... Way to go! You are doing well and in a short period of time with the Gamma. I'm sure you'll keep working those sites, and good finds will keep coming your way. The Gamma, like other Teknetics models, is an excellent value and performer.

Hey, 'capt.,' don't think that you guys are the only ones using the Omega. You' note in many of my posts that I also use it. Actually, it could easily be a main-use detector for me instead of the Omega simply because they offer virtually idential adjustment functions and in-the-field performance. I had considered the Gamma, but the 3-coil Omega package got my attention so I went that way.

Oh, and for everyone else ... Please note that I have, do, and will post on other forums of note because they, too, have competitive models that are decent. I don't want folks to think that they need to unload a different brand or model just to go with a Teknetics. I am not thrilled with all detector manufacturers, and certainly not all of their models, either. If picking a model for myself I only like one current Minelab model, two or three of the older Tesoro models, three now gone and two current offerings from White's, and if pressured one from Garrett (sort of). Naturally a couple of Fisher models catch my interest, but for me, my chosen sites, and my interest in value and performance for the dollar, it's tough to beat the T2, G2, Omega, Gamma and Delta.

Matter of fact, it's been two solid days with only the G2 put to work so maybe tomorrow will be A Gamma day. :) Tuesday we have an early morning meeting and then it is a T2 day as I'm working with a couple of guys to learn the value of independent Sensitivity settings for each mode/function (All Metal, Discrimination and Pinpoint).

If possible I might get over Darkflight's direction on Thursday or Friday and see if I can help thin some of those sites down a little.

Okay, back to my book stuff.

And I'd really like to try the smaller coil for the more challenging spots...

It is a great machine. Better than expected depth. If I get in the soil what it will air test-a foot on a nickle?. But it has proven itself to me in a very short time. And thats not an easy thing to do...

Having become familiar with a certain hunting style I was relieved to find I could use the feedback on the 1/2 tone mode for hunting. For those used to the topne ID machines I'm sure they would prefer settings 3/4. The problem I have with that I want more direct feedback. Using the rheostat feedback sound to tell the size & probable solidity of a target.

I'm loving it so far. I feel confident walking away from a lot more can slaw than I used to. Monte has warned me not to pass on zincs...I do if they are on the surface as what are the odds...But I dig anything above / below the zinc ID# even by a digit. Thats where the chinese coin rang in for example.

But if I see the ID bounce around a lot or it won't ring "solid" I pass it by... Lots of ground to cover.

Cheers!

of all the alfa series i liked the gamma the best seemed to be the most stable and was just as deep as the omega i had and i think it was just a bit lighter than my tesoro's and would handle EMI the best too!

Very nice finds looks like you're doing great with you new detector.

Own a Tesoro EL Dorado and owned a Gamma like the El Dorado much better in my area. Gamma is a good little machine though, just not better then my El Dorado in my area.

I might add I owned the Cortes and think the Gamma is a much better buy then the Cortes because I just think to much info is cramed in to small a display on the Cortes.
